Starlets are not only taking fashion risks this year, they are also taking risks with their hair. Updo's were extremely popular this year on the red carpet, and these gals used their coif as an opportunity to add style and an extra accessory to their look.
Here are three jazzy hair accessories on: Maggie Gyllenhaal (she wore a feather hair clip), Katie Holmes (she wore a beaded headpiece) and Penelope Cruz (she attached a faux braid).

Go Maggie. This week's Fab favorite was decided earlier in the week when I saw this beauty in this Dries Van Noten beauty at The Dark Knight premiere. And yes, I've already seen the movie and it is a-mazing.

I have to admit that when I first heard that actress Maggie Gyllenhaal was going to replace Kate Moss as the face of Agent Provocateur, I was less than thrilled. I just couldn't get the image of Maggie with her little daughter Ramona out of my head long enough to replace it with her as a saucy lingerie model. But now that the ads have been released, I am pleasantly surprised.

Judging from Maggie Gyllenhaal's nonconformist sense of style, you wouldn't think she cares about what other people, including the tabloids, say about her fashion choices. But she's only human, and in August's Marie Claire (on set, left), she confesses her feelings about finding herself on "worst dressed" lists.
"Sometimes it freaks me out.

There are designers whose collections have certain pieces you like, then there are designers whose entire collection you crave. Maggie Ward, an LA-based designer, tempts me with each and every one of her delicate yet cool pieces. Jumpsuits, trench coats, T-shirts, and jodhpurs ranging from $45 to $270 are all part of the mix.

Maggie Gyllenhaal has a dark side. Her premiere looks for the action flick The Dark Knight not only complimented her, but they complimented the film. Maggie usually chooses dresses of the darker persuasion for her red carpet appearances — one of my favorites being her Proenza Schouler 2007 Oscar gown — but they work so well with her fantastic skin and retro look.

Leave it to Maggie Gyllenhaal to stand out from the crowd in a one-shouldered black and turquoise leopard print gown by Lanvin. I like how the simple black belt defines her waistline, and check out those amazing vintage-inspired earrings. Unique and cool, just like the actress.

Maggie Gyllenhaal teamed up with Peter Som and the result is this poufy, strapless eggplant dress. There's a lot going on — ruched bodice, oversized bow, uneven hem, tulle — but it's very Maggie!

I revisited Givenchy's Spring '08 collection today and I'm glad I did because it sparked this post. My adoration for Riccardo Tisci's large graphic polka dots led me to do a search for wearable oversized polka-dot dresses. Alas, I discovered this Maggy London Print Charmeuse Halter Dress ($92, originally $138).
