Remember when I met Mena Suvari at Alice + Olivia's Spring '09 show, and she described the brand as "very easy, comfortable, and sexy"? She was right on. The actress exuded all those things in this Alice + Olivia gray halter maxi to a recent party in Malibu.

Denim has seen many transformations this year; it's been fun following it. I guess the skinny jean backlash spun out of control.
First, we had baggy jeans, no thanks.

The Alice + Olivia show is always laid back, creative and held in their store right by all the action at Bryant Park. As well, the designer, Stacey Bendet, has many famous friends. For her Spring show, I not only rubbed elbows with Mena Suvari, we talked A+O, Fashion Week and summertime.

Mena Suvari's style has come a long way from the goody goody character she played in American Pie. She's now a sophisticated woman who's not afraid to take beauty risks. I think she looks equally stunning as a blonde and as a brunette.

With Paris and Nicky Hilton on its runway and two wacky designers behind its fashions, it's no surprise that the Tuesday night show from Heatherette was one of the most buzzed-about events at New York Fashion Week. The models, which also included Mena Suvari and Kelis, strutted out a smorgasbord of styles ranging from lavender and gold lame to leopard and Hawaiian prints to country-club fashions gone a little nutty.
Created by designer duo Traver Rains and Richie Rich, Heatherette's clothes are admittedly off-kilter, but several innovative ideas stood out, including alphabet-print fabrics, voluminous appliques, and some truly creative layering.
