On Our Radar: Method's Plastic Bag Rehab

Now that the Anya Hindmarch "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" craze has died down, there's yet another eco-chic bag to take its place. Method's Plastic Bag Rehab is perfect for stashing your groceries or laundry. It's a bit brighter than Anya's but has a similar Boogie Nights-esque writing font. Plus, it has its own tiny interior pocket so you can fold it when not using.

If you want one, go here and download a mail-in form. You must purchase $20 or more of any Method product either at a retailer or online. Once you do, save your receipt and mail it to the address on the form. This offer is good from October through December, and while supplies last.

Style for Style: White Handbag Stains

You know the story: you finally muster up the guts to purchase the perfect white handbag and to your dismay, the bozo sitting next to you on the train accidentally leaves a pen stain on it while writing in his "diary." What to do? Pinupsweetheart wanted to know, so I'm here to say that it's okay to panic for a minute, but you must get over it fast and do something before it's too late.

I have found that Method Surface Wipes, $4, are the best way to get rid of pen marks, denim stains and dirt on your crisp white bag. You should always have a ziploc baggie full sitting at your desk at work and at home because you never know when or where the stain will hit. Also, these are biodegradable and eco-friendly so the chemicals are more gentle on the delicate leather. If it's too late and the pen stain won't come off, you can always dab a bit of good ol' whiteout on it! And for the future, try not to sit next to someone that is frantically writing an essay on the train.

Simply Fab: method Softener Infused Dryer Cloths

For the longest time I didn't use fabric softener because my dermatologist told me the chemicals can cause breakouts on your skin. Seeing as how I'm a side sleeper (anyone else raise your hand?!), and I end up burrowing my face in my pillow by dawn, I avoided fabric softener for years.

The pioneer when it comes to good-for-the-planet cleaning products has enlightened me to these method Softener Infused Dryer Cloths, $5. I am already a devoted method fan so if I was to attempt fabric softener it would be via them. Most dryer sheets contain animal tallow (ew) that leaves a gummy residue. These wet cloths infuse plant-based softeners right into the fabric as it dries. I have been using them for about a month now and I am happy to say I am break out free, well, mostly. They come in four flavors: water lily + aloe, lavender + juniper, sweet water, and nectarine blossom (the Fab fave).

Did you ever see a more modern air freshener? This method Aroma Pill looks like it escaped from the set of The Fifth Element or some other cool space age film. A Method devotee myself, I purchased one of these and really love it. This one is the grapefruit + pear flavor and there are several more interesting combos to choose from. Do you ever do the Flashdance workout? You know, strip down, and sweat and dance your ass off in the privacy of your own home? Fab does it, just ask my neighbors. Bonus points if your dog sits there watching you. Dancing is one of my favorite exercise methods, and this workout is free . . . as well as free-spirited. Get your hips swirling, head twirling, stretches bouncing, and you too can have Jennifer Beals's bootie. Or so we try. Either way, it's good for the body and soul. Plus, it's an excellent Halloween look.

On Our Radar: Manufacturers and Retailers Inching More Toward Eco

We all know it's impossible to reverse the damages done to Mother Earth, but there's always room for improvement. That's why an increasing amount of manufacturers and retailers are stepping up to fight global warming and climate change. Stats show an increase in the amount of companies taking interest in learning how to conserve energy, finding ethical sourcing partners, and educating consumers about the benefits of sustainable methods. We're ecstatic to see big companies, such as Target with it's Loomstate line, step up to the challenge.

Fab Ad: Derek Lam Fall '09

More designers are turning to the old school method of advertising: print ads. Zac Posen had his ad debut and now it's Derek Lam's turn. The designer recently shot his first campaign (in San Francisco), which will appear in the August issues of Vogue, Elle, and Harper’s Bazaar. Estonian model Karmen Pedaru is seen walking on the beach at Pier 59 in New York. "We are creating a message that will last more than one season," said photographer Solve Sundsbo. Being fully clothed on the beach is nothing new, but I particularly dig the aerial shot. Do you?

A Few Fab Words With Pencey

Among the many commonalities Shopbop and I share is our intense adoration for all things Pencey. Shopbop houses many of the brand's dope dresses, leggings, blazers, skirts, and scarves. The more I see their pieces, the more I crave them. Currently, I'm crushing on the one-shoulder dress and ripped cutoff shorts (below), and the coral blazer romper. Notice how not only are their clothes unique, but so are their too-cool-for-school styling methods. I recently had the pleasure of chatting with designers Kate Wendelborn and Christina Minasian about their craft, their closets, and their inspiration.

What type of girl do you design for?
We design for ourselves, our friends, and any girl who wants to stand out in a crowd.

Most of your pieces are off-kilter and experimental. Are they a reflection of your own personal styles?
The pieces are not so experimental themselves. It's more in the way that you wear them. Pencey is definitely a reflection of both our styles.

Is there any item you refuse to work with or is it all fair game for Pencey?
Pretty much all fair game. Our minds change every five minutes.

How do you go about setting yourself apart from other brands in the market?
We try to make clothes that girls feel cool in. And we don't take ourselves too seriously.

What are some key piece from the Spring collection?
We used a lot of hardware like safety pins, hook and eyes, and studs. And a lot of floral prints.

Do you ever get designer's block during the process or is it pretty much smooth sailing?
If we get blocked we instantly move. The harder you think about something the worse the block gets. Sometimes we have to break it up by going on PopSugar! (Sweet)
