This year's success of the Costume Institute's Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibit left us wondering how the MET was going to top the record-breaking show. WWD just reported that the Costume Institute’s Harold Koda and Andrew Bolton have chosen to showcase the work of Miuccia Prada and Elsa Schiaparelli for its next exhibit in Spring 2012. Let's see, this year we explored models as muses, the year before we dodged superheroes. 2010's Costume Institute will be all about American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity. “The story of the American woman is really a story of the power of fashion to shape and define identity,” said Andrew Bolton, curator of the Costume Institute. The exhibit will examine our country's fashion between 1890 and 1940 with articles transferred over from the Brooklyn Museum Costume Collection. To go with the all-American theme, Oprah, Anna Wintour, and Gap's Patrick Robinson will act as co-chairs for the event. Two of the most influential people in fashion today, Anna Wintour and Balenciaga designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, along with a whole bunch of A-List celebs, gathered at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute to Celebrate Paul Poiret last night. Everybody who is anybody attended the Gala and they were dressed to impress.

Paul Poiret was a fashion pioneer who freed women of corsetry and adopted shocking colors and exotic references of the Ballets Russes to the haute couture. The height of his career was pre-World War I France when he was dubbed the undisputed "King of Fashion." As we know fashion is cyclic, so not only are we going to be seeing more of his influence on the runways but his pieces are now official works of art.

A lot of you showed interest in fashion's emerging Great Gatsby direction so if you happen to be in NYC between May 9 – August 5 be sure to check out this exhibit!
