On Our Radar: New York Look Shuts Down Operation For Now

Yet another change has been made to New York Fashion Week. One of our fashion bibles, New York Look, has announced that it will not publish a Spring issue this year. That means no special Fashion Week coverage in New York, Paris, or Milan. Instead, coverage will appear in the regularly syndicated Fall fashion issue of its parent publication, New York magazine. Whether or not New York Look will produce a Fall issue is still unknown. A spokeswoman for New York magazine states it "will revisit the publishing of the stand-alone Look in the Fall of 2009.” Sigh, another one bites the dust.

Fab Flash: Move Over Martha and Oprah, Make Room for Tyra

Oh, Tyra. Who knew she would go from model and fresh-faced actress on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to being the next Martha or Oprah - to being a super brand. Tyra has become a household name, and she's got the upcoming cover of The New York Times Magazine to prove it.

This Sunday, our favorite model mentor will grace the cover of the Sunday weekly with an article about how she is striving to become the next female powerhouse. As the NY Times puts it, "Like her hero, Martha Stewart, Banks wants, most of all, for her name to immediately suggest a distinct point of view. Her brand, like her trademark 'tough but still smiling' smile, is consistent in all her shows: serious about the frivolous; empathetic and empowering, and always, always aimed at young women, across all races. It's girly TV with a punch." We all love her dramatic antics on America's Next Top Model, and she's got the looks and bravada to captivate an audience, so I buy it. Do you?

FABTV: The Drums, "Let's Go Surfing"

Now that I survived Burning Man and New York Fashion Week, I just want to just kick back and surf. I've been trying to perfect my skills for a while now, but Fab life happens, and I haven't gotten out there as much as I'd like. Now is prime surfing time in Northern California so . . . let's go surfing! I found this video via Foam magazine and my current mantra is being sung by these cuties, The Drums. Though there is no surfing in the video, it's upbeat and motivating. The band is actually running, not surfing, at night, and they are fully clothed - no wetsuits. The chorus is adorable, too, "Down down baby down by the roller coaster . . . ". Let's go!
