Wedding Nails: The Quintessential French Manicure

The French manicure has a regal connotation to it that represents class, elegance and a sense of high quality grooming. Having said that, plenty of people today feel that the French manicure is out of style and would even consider it cheesy. Whichever way you decide to go, I still think the French manicure is the quintessential way to paint your nails for your wedding day. It's soft, understated and shows that you pay attention to detail.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the French manicure, I have pictured it here for you. A white stripe is painted to the tops of the nails (I prefer a soft, square cut nail with a thin stripe) and then a sheer, pale pink or beige toned polish is applied on top. Here are a few French manicure kits to choose from.

Bourjois French Manicure Kit, $20, is a three piece French manicure kit. Beauty Marked! A Deep Purple Nail Polish

Last week I told you I needed a new purple nail polish. While I like the color Carol from NYX that I told you about last week, I am running low and would like to try something new.

Beauty Mark #1 found by LuckyGrl83 and PartySugar, is a fab purple color called Dark Pleasure's Nail Polish in Blacker Laquer by Revlon. This polish is dark, seductive and mysterious! Ooh la la. It is pearlized which also adds dimension and allure. Available in six other deep, blackened jewel-toned shades.

Beauty Mark #2 found by baltimoregal and dollfacedot14, is called Lincoln Park After Dark by OPI. This nail enamel is part of the classic purples collection. This polish is shiny and a little bit brighter than mine. I think I'll give it a whirl. Thanks for the suggestion!

Beauty Mark #3 found by lilxmissxmolly, is called Purple Pain Nail Polish by Manic Panic. It is an iridescent purple gloss that really reminds me of the 80s. This would be a great shade for your toes or for a fun girls' night out on the town.

OPI's Hot Holiday Colors

Nail polish brand O.P.I. comes up with the best names for its shades, and its soon-to-be-released Holiday 2006 collection is no exception. This lineup, called Kick Up Your Heels!, was inspired by the Radio City Music Hall's Rockettes and includes festive, rich reds and gorgeous gold tones reminiscent of the dancers' Santa costumes and pantyhosed legs. And, of course, the names are ingenious. Some of my favorite colors include the classic Rockette Red, the bronzy peach Leg's Celebrate!, the sophisticated rose Star-ring the Rockettes!, and the earthy metallic I Get a Kick Out of Gold! Look for the new holiday shades soon at your local nail salon.

Low-Maintenance Must-Have: Nail Buffer

I love having nice-looking nails, but my always-on-the-go life doesn't leave much time for manicures, much less lay-about nail-painting sessions at home. That's why I love nail buffing, and the OPI 1-2-3 Luster Buff Board is the best tool I've found yet. The soft, gentle surface is great for smoothing out ridges and giving your nails a healthy, glossy glow-like a clear coat, but more natural. It will make your nails look polished even if they're not. Dark and Sexy Nail Polish

Last week we asked you about Black Nail Polish – Love it or Hate it? It looks like Victoria Beckham Loves It, but most of you hated it. A lot of you did point out, however, that other dark colors are sexy and chic for Fall.

As far as I can tell the original dark nail polish craze started with Chanel's "Vamp" in 1994. Vamp is described as a rich dark chocolaty-red, almost black. Apparently the color was discontinued for awhile, but is now back. I have been trying to find it online all morning and it's nowhere to be found, not even on eBay. If anyone finds it, please let us all know!

Sparkling Silver Nails

There is no doubt metallics have staying power. This trend is actually transpiring all the way down to your fingertips! That's right, - beauty and fashion are cyclical and silver nails are back. Just look at these silver toes at the Chanel Spring show. What makes this particular photo even cooler is the model's sprinkling of star tattoos.

Here are three of my favorite strictly silver polishes for those of you trendsetters brave enough to veer away from safe and simple light pink polishes.

OPI Rinse Charming Nail Lacquer, $7.50, not only has a cute and catchy name but it has a deep silver hue to it. This is definitely the deepest out of these three colors. In my experience OPI polishes last a long time and are true to color. Try it and let me know what you think!

Celebrity Style: Nicky Hilton

Nicky Hilton attended the launch party for Paige and OPI's Bright Pair collection in West Hollywood over the weekend. Considering the line is all about colored denim, it's fitting that she wore Paige Premium Denim's bright blue skinny jeans. Always one to incorporate a touch of menswear, Nicky tempered her bold bottoms via a black boyfriend blazer. Black peep-toe Christian Louboutins, a baggy white v-neck tee, and silver jewels bring the look to a nice finish.

Rich Chocolate Nail Polish
