It seems sunshine follows Cali girl Lauren Conrad wherever she goes. Case in point: in NYC, in her happy swing coat. Yellow, an unexpected yet friendly color, always brightens drab Winter days. I have a happy red Miu Miu coat I rarely wear, not because I don't love it, but simply because it rarely gets cold enough in San Francisco for it. Nonetheless, it makes a statement and is utterly ladylike. Just like LC. P.S. Nice stems.

Puffer coats are nothing new, but fashionable puffers have become a hot outerwear trend, especially in cold-weather destinations like New York City. This J.Jill Cocooning Puffer Coat ($160, originally $180) is totally sleek despite its voluminous shape. I especially dig the dramatic collar and suave hue. Back to Basics: 15 Crisp Trench Coats

First we gave you 15 perfect white shirts. We continue our Back to Basics tour with what sits on top of the shirt - a coat. Trench coat, to be exact. This style of outerwear has been around since World War I. It was first made for British and French soldiers. Of course, we can't mention trench coats without mentioning Burberry, one of its inventors. The trench has come a long way since, and has taken a life of its own. Cropped, long, embellished, colored, printed, metallic - the possibilities are endless. Proceed to discover my favorites.

Upon walking to work today, I noticed a very stylish girl wearing a camel coat, skinny black jeans, and booties. At first glance, it didn't look like anything to ogle over, but something about her outfit was extra special - a-ha! It was her short sleeve coat. See, she layered a pretty semi-sheer black chiffon blouse underneath her wool jacket for a cool textural effect, and of course, added warmth. I like it!

You must have noticed the tweed rage these days. Everyone is wearing it in some form. I loved Olivia Palermo's tweed H&M shorts so much, I got the matching jacket recently.
