Jean Paul Gaultier Turned All His Models Into Amy Winehouse

Models at the latest Jean Paul Gaultier show were a big surprise when they hit the runway, and not just because of Gaultier's iconoclastic ensembles. The designer sent out an army of Amy Winehouse clones, all bedecked in huge beehives, thick retro eyeliner, and Ms. Winehouse's signature "beauty mark" (which was actually a piercing). One of the doppelgängers was even smoking a cigarette. Gaultier genuinely seems to be inspired by Amy's singular sense of style and her music as well - the soundtrack to the show was comprised entirely of her songs. So far, reviews of the collection are positive, and everyone involved seems well intentioned. Still, given how recently Amy passed, is it fair to ask whether copying her look is appropriate just yet?

It's time to say au revoir to Fashion Month - Paris marks the end of the Spring 2012 collections and though we're sad to see it go, we're even more excited to add these gorgeous shoes to our Spring shopping lists. Metallic footwear proved to be a major designer trend, from the sleek silver booties at Chanel to the bright gold loafers at Chloé. As far as silhouette goes, we can definitely plan on having a proclivity for pointed-toes; Nina Ricci, Louis Vuitton, and Miu Miu all featured the shape in their collections, giving us a strong yet feminine vibe to look forward to next season. The celebrity-favorite designer turned out a rainbow-coded color fest for Spring '12. It's as if he took each primary hue from a box of crayons, then offered an iteration of evening wear, cocktail sheaths, and suiting - one in every color. The primary references have only to do with color scheming; there's nothing elementary about the red-carpet-worthy gowns, made brighter and more statement-worthy in sequins, dreamy sheer layers, and lace. You see the craftsmanship in every piece - a subtle, smart lace inset on a cobalt blue suit, a just-sexy-enough neckline on a fitted sheath. It's a collection that carries its sex appeal with total confidence - just like that woman who will wear it.
