When I first learned about the existence of colorful safety pins, I jumped for joy so high that had I been holding a safety pin in my hand, I would have poked my eye out. No, but seriously, besides it being pretty, it's also really useful. What I didn't jump for joy over is the price ($14 for 36 pins).

A safety pin isn't the first thing I would think to wear around my neck, but I instantly became smitten with the concept when a co-worker wore this Giles & Brother Tiny Safety Pin Necklace ($75) to work recently. Darling, right?

Safety pins aren't traditionally meant to be worn as necklaces, but I say why not have a little bit of fashion fun? These life size Azumi & David Safety Pin Necklaces (call for price info) are super cheeky. They're definitely for someone with a fashion sense of humor.

Have you noticed the recent influx of safety pins as accessories? I have and I'm quite fond of this quirky design. That's what drew me to this Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Safety Pin Sweater ($194).
