Happy National Tartan Day! Today more than 11 million Americans with Scottish and Scotch-Irish roots celebrate their heritage with events happening all over the country. One foolproof way to join in on the festivity is to pile on the plaid. Of course, a kilt is a festive route, but there's plenty of tartan home decor to get your hands on too!

One of my favorites is the Graham and Brown Audrey Wallpaper ($85) designed by Marcel Wanders. If you're looking for less of a commitment, the Tartan Plaid Napkin Rings ($12) would be a traditional touch for a Scottish party or the Ralph Lauren Wool Tartan Throw ($180) is a cozy item you can use when you're taking it easy.

DIY This Plaid and Glam Dresser

While flipping through Skona Hem, I had to stop and take a much closer look at this glamorous bathroom. The entire space is absolutely spectacular, but my favorite element has to be the mod, plaid, golden-hued dresser against the wall. While you could spend thousands commissioning a custom piece similar to this one, you could also re-create the look with a simple DIY. Hear how to do it when you

To get the look, start with a flea market or thrifted dresser that uses similar curves. Then sand and prime the dresser. Finish with a coat of white paint. To get the plaid look, you'll want to tape off the plaid pattern at the height and width you desire. Then, finish off the entire dresser with gold liquid paint. Part of why we love plaid this time of year is its traditional, cozy-up-by-the-fire, country cabin feel. And there's nothing wrong with bringing out the classic pattern for sentimental reasons. But by choosing the right pieces - luxurious, modern, or eclectic - and finding a fresh way to incorporate them into your home, you keep a plaid-dressed room from transforming into an outdated Christmas catalog scene. For example, I'm all about the way plaid plays with other patterns in this Manhattan apartment - all it took was a couple well-placed throw pillows. I've admired the Mascot Puffer Jackets ever since they came out, and the latest ones are even cuter in two new color combinations! This red style reverses to black and a blue plaid to a deep green but both are filled with down and extra snuggly for snowy romps.

If you want to take the preppy pattern to the max, there's also a complementary leather leash and collar for bonus coordination. I'm leaning towards the red tartan since it would make a subtly festive Christmas present, too, but see for yourself in the widget below.
