Fab Tip: Perfecting Racerbacks

If you've ever worn racerback tops, much like this Express Sexy Basics Racerback Tank ($17), then you know that they have a slight flaw. If they're cut too low, your bra ends up showing from the sides and back. Unless you want to pull a Carrie Bradshaw, I came up with a solution without sacrificing comfort.

Fab Body Guide: Dangerous Curves Ahead

Leighton Meester's body is smokin', but by no means curvalicious. So why am I using her as a poster child for curves? Because in her BCBG dress, she proves that you don't need major curves to look womanly. Here, her body looks more hourglass-like than usual, thanks to the dramatic racerback bodice of her LBD.

I don't usually get very fancy with my yoga clothes. A fitted tank with a built-in sports bra is my usual go-to top. It keeps my girls covered and in place, and the fitted body stays put when I go upside down. But some days ~~you ate too many cookies~~ you just don't feel like wearing something tight. You could sport a loose shirt but it doesn't offer the most flattering look, and as soon as you start moving, it can end up exposing your belly even more than a tight tank. Max Mara Spring 2012

Max Mara delivered an expectedly minimalist Spring 2012 collection, but this season there was an extra lean, sporty element. Think racerback tanks and capri leggings, delivered in colorblocked palettes of aqua, tan, and cream, which might be unwearable for most of us, but thankfully there were loosely structured anoraks, sporty gold lurex jackets, and balloon tunics with which to layer. It was a stripped-down collection that seemed focused on silhouettes, specifically a trim silhouette, and the only fashion fat came from the use of gold lurex and leather to add depth.

Trends: Sporty, minimalism, racerbacks, anoraks, jumpsuits.
Colors: Tan, aqua, cream, gold.
Key Piece: The flowy anoraks and short gold lurex jacket; the strapless jumpsuit.
Accessories: Espadrilles.
Who Would Wear It: Girls with super toned arms - we could see Katie Holmes in the jumpsuit.

3.1 Phillip Lim Spring 2012

Phillip Lim's Spring 2012 collection was built around the ideas of geometry, activewear, and kites. Yes, those wispy things we send up to the sky inspired Lim's soft, flowing clothes, many of which ruffled and moved with the slightest breeze. There was lots of silk, from side-slit trousers to delicate dresses with geometric ruffles. There were sporty pieces as well, including tops that looked like they had been cut from a thin rubber (more chic than it sounds), micro twill utility vests, and a bonded leather round collar jacket. The trousers will be a must have next season, done in soft colors like limoncello and lavender for ultimate breezy style. So, too, will be the metallic silver sandals that look so insanely good with Lim's pastel-hued offerings.

Trends: Sporty, structural shapes, pastels, vests.
Colors: Soft pastels like limoncello, lilac, and shell pink; tempered with black, ivory, and pecan.
Key Piece: The side-slit trousers, a black racerback maxi vest paired with slouchy pecan-hued trousers, the shell pink bonded leather jacket, a deceptively simple, but perfect, black halter minidress that floated around the body.
Accessories: The silver Domina and Nishi sandals are gorgeous.
Who Would Wear It: The effortless, downtown chic girls loved by Lim - from fashion bloggers like Hanneli to red-carpet stars like Leighton Meester and Rachel Bilson.
