Jessica Alba and Cash Warren were among the famous guests who turned out last night for "An Evening With Ralph Lauren," which was hosted by Oprah Winfrey at NYC's Lincoln Center. Other ladies who love Ralph's designs, like Naomi Watts, Uma Thurman, and Kerry Washington, hit the blue carpet solo. Jerry Seinfeld and his wife Jessica posed as a pair. Ralph had the support of his family at the event, which was a benefit for the Ralph Lauren Center for Cancer Care and Prevention and Lincoln Center, including sons Andrew and David, daughter Dylan, and wife Ricky. David, who married Lauren Bush just over a month ago, proudly sported his new ring as he and his wife mingled and said hi to Naomi.

Ralph and Oprah sat on stage to talk about the designer's lengthy career, and what continues to inspire him. Naomi Watts shared her thoughts on Ralph's body of work as well. She said, "He's been famous for so long. I grew up following him. Ralph Lauren is a great American icon, and he's here along with another great American icon. It's my pleasure to be here."

In 1967, Lauren launched his own line of ties, then followed up with a complete menswear collection the year after. A few years after, Lauren introduced the world to his now iconic polo shirt with its signature horse rider emblem. Fast forward to present time, and the designer has since swept the world with his classic, effortless, beautiful American designs. In honor of Lauren's birthday, we compiled some of the brand's amazing ad campaigns, most of which were shot by Bruce Weber, showing us what true Americana really is. Ralph Lauren's Spring 2012 collection was devoted to the 1920s a la The Great Gatsby. There was that louche sportiness via a double-breasted suit and drop-waist dresses, lots of beading and feathers, and the slim, sexy silhouettes favored by the Daisy Buchanans of the world. Despite the mass public criticism of the brand over-retouching of campaigns is increasingly becoming the norm, which has led to the American Medical Association to take a strong stance on the issue.
