First, he attended the Met Gala arm in arm with bombshell Doutzen Kroes, then Kate Middleton donned his creamy, thigh-slit Fall '09 gown for a dinner in London, and to top it all off, Beyoncé opted to wear his iconic Fall '05 Galaxy dress in a teal blue rendition for the Thriving Child book launch last night. While Beyoncé certainly pulled out all the stops in Givenchy for the Met Gala Monday, her retro curve-hugging choice here proved both subtle and sexy. The cap-sleeve, formfitting silhouette is one that we can really get behind - why? Roland Mouret's Fall 2012 collection was all about ladylike layering. His inspiration point was Paris in 1947, when the big freeze occurred, as he paired a variety of fur vests and caplets over turtleneck sweaters and tops, and origami-inspired jackets over sheath dresses. While the designer featured his signature fitted dress silhouettes, a mix of looser cuts were interspersed into the ladylike mix via full skirts and oversize coats. Meanwhile, baggy-cut trousers and A-line skirt suits provided a more chic approach to day-wear dressing. Roland Mouret knows what women want: to appear incredibly sexy, without ever feeling like you've gone too far or tried too hard. For Spring 2012, he exercised that same restraint via cutouts and form-fitting shapes - but only to a certain extent. While his Fall '11 looks veered into softer femininity, there is a mix both of retro-inspired silhouettes giving way to more modern details. Dresses are, at first, printed and ladylike, then sharper and tailored, some with curve-hugging fits and flashes of skin via unexpected eye-shaped cutouts. Then, he counters with suiting; bright, slim trousers and button-downs, and midi skirts, all embellished with black ribbon bow-ties to temper the cutouts and sexier fare. You could just as easily find your standout cocktail dress as you could your workday office wear, and it would all be the perfect kind of sexy for whatever the occasion.

Roland Mouret Named Creative Director of Robert Clergerie

Roland Mouret had just been named the new creative director of Robert Clergerie. Roland, who worked with Clergerie in his early fashion career, will create shoes and accessories for the French brand known for its chunky nouveau aesthetic. His designs for Robert Clergerie won't be revealed until later this year, but we hope it's going to include some of his signature sleek structural style as seen in his namesake line.

We rely on Roland Mouret to deliver femininity and polish. For Fall '11 he succeeds in crafting a collection in the same vein, though this time, channeling a softer side in the form of easier silhouettes. Roland, too, opts for longer hemlines and shows nods to the '70s in furs, wide-leg trousers, and draped halter tops. But there are still the cinched waists and body-conscious details we expect, even in the design of jackets and coats, which too nip at the waist. It's a careful balance of what the modern femme craves - more structure, pants, and separates - and then, again something equally refined, but less structural, more movement and easy, womanly dressing. In the end, fan Victoria Beckham could find her cocktail dress just as easily as one with a taste for softer, subtler femininity could find hers.
