If Mischa Barton is wearing it, then it must be in. That's right: 1960s mod style is making a major comeback— everything from go-go boots to oversize white sunglasses, thick headbands, and shift dresses like Mischa's from AKA New York, available at Intermix for $435.
Though her blue shift dress is only available in stores, you can buy a similar red-print version for $338 here.

Leighton Meester is no stranger to pushing the fashion envelope. For the screening of 500 Days of Summer in NYC, the Gossip Girl donned an oversize houndstooth shift dress and slick snakeskin peep-toe booties. The red and purple combo is a bold choice — I love it — but I think strappy sandals would look better with this outfit.

With Spring in the air and flowers in bloom, my mind wanders toward bright colors and bold patterns. Perusing my favorite shopping sites, I pranced upon this Emilio Pucci Laser-Cut Suede Shift Dress ($2,900). Luckily, the dress comes attached with a nude slip so I won't have to worry about the laser cutouts.

I absolutely adore this Vera Wang Charmeuse Shift Dress. Made from lavender-gray silk, the simple but elegant dress looks extremely flattering, with its high neck, pleated bust, and empire waist. I also love the little details, like the bow on the belt and the appliqued flowers.

A self-proclaimed mermaid, I drowned in Proenza Schouler's aquatic chic Spring collection. It wasn't evident right away — leather and bondage shirt dresses and jackets opened. And then, like a flurry of fish, tiered and ruffled frocks in teals, turquoise, and acid green stole the scene.

Go Team Wang. For Spring, the designer shifted direction, lightened the mood, used less black, experimented with texture and layers, introduced funky sunglasses. All good choices, in my humble opinion.

I never considered pink hair until I saw Valerija Erokhina in Vogue Australia's May '09 issue. OK, I'll never really dye my hair pink — unless it's Halloween — but I adore Valerija's slightly tinted 'do. The spread, dubbed "Flora Plan," features the Russian model wearing a sweet mix of '40s-inspired ladylike separates and modern elements.

What makes certain clothes and accessories stand out from others? For me, it's the cuts, colors, and my all-time favorite detail: appliqués. For example, Diane Kruger's stunning Jason Wu mini would be a plain, red shift dress if it weren't for the beaded black shoulder embellishments.
