Add Some Twinkle to Your Toes

Flats are all the rage right now, and the style goes great with anything from skinny jeans to skirts and dresses. Plus, when they have a little bit of sparkle and sequins, flats can add some flair to whatever you wear. Here are three of my picks for fabulous, glittery flats.

I simply adore Tracy Reese's clothes, and these Bowtie Kitten Schmid Sparkle Flats are really something special. Just keep in mind, they run half a size to a full size small.

These French Sole Twinkle Slippers are too cute for words, with silver sequins and rope tie bows at the toe. Buy them here for $148.

These Hogan Coquette Ballerina Flats are leather with a little bit of bronze sequins on the vamp. Hogan shoes are also incredibly comfortable, since they stretch and mold to your foot shape after only a few wears. Buy them here for $425.

Shoes That Look Expensive but Are Actually Affordable

Cheap shoes are awesome - except when they look like cheap shoes. Fortunately, the sandals, stilettos, flats and metallic fashiony sneakers in the slideshow below are anything but jenky. They're each under $200, but look way pricier due to their shapes and materials. (Or due to some undefinable but obvious fancy shoe hallmark, the kind that sparks "Are those Céline?" inquiries all day long.)

Fashion pros and celebs alike are embracing the easy separates - and while our first thought was this: if someone's giving us the opportunity to wear our comfiest sleep-time staples right out on the street, why wouldn't we?! That impulse was also checked with visions of the not-so-well-executed take on the trend that makes them look, well, more like pajamas and less like eveningwear. Grillades and grits are a trademark dish in New Orleans. If you can't make the trip to Nola, Food Orleans shows you how to recreate the experience in your own home.

If you've never had or heard of grillades and grits, then I apologize for not mentioning them earlier. They're one of the two most wonderful things to eat for brunch in New Orleans (shrimp and grits being the other). I've never been to anyplace in town for brunch that didn't offer one or both of these goodies. Grillades (gree'-awds) are made of beef, veal, or pork; I haven't encountered a rabbit version yet, but I won't be surprised when I do. The beef is a thin, flat cut of top round or chuck - something that can withstand a long, slow cooking. It simmers in a pot with the trinity (onion, celery, bell pepper), garlic, and a little jalapeno - not traditional, but I really like it - until the rich broth thickens and intensifies, so what you get is a powerfully flavored beef "stew" that is perfect over creamy cheese grits. This is a great Louisiana recipe to try if you're hankering for some thick, rich goodness but you don't feel up to stirring a roux, because you don't have to. The small amount of flour used in the browning of the beef will produce all the roux you need.

Fab reader CBladyàlamode wowed in a cool cable knit caped look. She draped her pretty beige-and-black poncho over a sequined zebra-striped top and cuffed tapered jeans. Her cat-eye sunglasses, oversize tote, and metallic Mary Jane flats were classic outfit accents. There's nothing we love more than a sparkly daytime ensemble - and this one fits the bill.
