Style For Style: Easy Traveling With Cotton

Even though it's been a while since the Transportation Security Agency implemented airport liquid regulations, I don't think I'll ever get used to it. Simply put: it's freaking annoying. But, I'm not going to do anything to jeopardize my trip. What I can do is minimize the liquids I take on my travels with me. For cotton items, like this Victoria's Secret Plaid Shirtdress ($68), I learned a brilliant solution to keep them wrinkle-free and travel-easy.

To easy-travel with cotton, read more

To keep my cotton dresses, shirts, and pants crisp, I use spray starch, like this Faultless Spray Starch ($4). When traveling, however, I don't bring the bulky can with me. So here's what I do . . .

Spray all cotton clothes with starch the day of the flight.

Cover them individually with a plastic bag.

Neatly fold them into luggage or hang them in garment bag.

Upon arrival of destination, take starched clothes out of plastic bags.

Just don't forget step two; you don't want to mess up your non-cotton clothes.

Modern Friction For Your Whole Body

I've already told you about my obsession with Origins Modern Friction, the dermabrasion face scrub that makes tired skin feel silky and look radiant. (If you don't believe me, get yourself a bottle for $36 here.) Now, the company has released its long-awaited Origins Modern Friction for the Body, which it describes as a "creamy, body-rejuvenating buffing paste." Like the face scrub, the body-specific version is made from rice starch, as well as corn-cob extract and shea butter, to banish flaky, ashy, or uneven skin on your hands, shoulders, or anywhere else you might want a little brightening.

It's best to apply Modern Friction right before you hop in the shower, so you can rinse it off easily and go. To use, just scoop some of the cream onto your skin while it's dry, splash a bit of water into the mix, and gently massage in circles. Continue to rub it in as you wash the solution off under warm water. You'll notice a difference right away, but you can use it once or twice a week as needed when you need a pick-me-up. You can buy a bottle for $38 here. Or, you can spend $75 on the Origins site and get a free sample of Modern Friction, along with free shipping.

The Facts on Friction

When I was in my early 20s, the phrase "tired-looking skin" wasn't even in my vocabulary. But lately, dull, worn-out skin has been one of my biggest beauty woes. So this weekend, in an attempt to brighten up my face, I bought my first jar of Origins Modern Friction, $36, available here. The gentle dermabrasion scrub, made from rice starch, promises to slough away dead skin cells and even out your complexion.

Because I have sensitive skin, I've always been wary of dermabrasion. But when the Origins sales lady demonstrated the scrub on my hand and I felt the silky smooth results, I was hooked. Plus, it's incredibly easy to use: You apply the scrub on your face when it's dry, then add just a splash of water and massage it in for a few minutes. Your skin will come out looking brighter and feeling creamy. Also, rumor has it that Origins will soon be launching Modern Friction for the body, so stay tuned.
