Stefano Pilati Out at Yves Saint Laurent

Change is the air: after last week's news of Raf Simons's departure at Jil Sander, it has just been announced that Stefano Pilati will be showing his last Yves Saint Laurent collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 5. "I exit the house with fierce conviction in all that we have achieved and deep gratitude to those who have supported me along the way," said Pilati. "I wish the maison Yves Saint Laurent and its new creative director the very best for the future." Pilati, who has been at Yves Saint Laurent since 2004, has been criticized over the years for his inconsistent collections. While some received rave reviews - Pilati's "Tribute" sandals along with his "Muse" and "Downtown" bags were great successes - critics described some of his collections as "lacking color and modernity." Meanwhile, Hedi Slimane, former designer at Dior Homme, is rumored to return to fashion and replace Pilati at YSL. Pilati's next move is still to be determined, but for now, check out his second to last Spring collection for Yves Saint Laurent in the slideshow.

Spring was seen in a darker light for Stefano Pilati's collection for Yves Saint Laurent. Instead of the bright colors and prints favored on many runways this season, Pilati showcased a gorgeous jewel-toned collection highlighting blue, purple, and forest green hues with a sprinkling of mint green to lighten up the mood. Showing what he does best, the designer created sharp tailored jacquard trousers and structured coats. The feminine touch in the way of fit-and-flare skirts, ruffle detailed blouses, printed coats, and sexy halter tops. For eveningwear, Pilati created sultry sheer black gowns, cut deep in the front and flecked with gold shimmer. The footwear selection was covetable, showing gold-plated suede loafers dipped in beautiful jewel tones, lace-up flats, cap-toe pumps, and platform loafers. Shoes that are sure to hit the must-haves list of every stylista.

Trends: Peplum, exotic prints, volume, jacquard.
Colors: Forest green, blue, pink, mint green, purple, fuchsia, pink .

Print ads are great, but there's something about videos that take campaigns to the next level of fashion greatness. And that's exactly what Stefano Pilati did, along with Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, for Yves Saint Laurent's Spring collection. Like the hard copy, the scene took place in the gardens of a 1930s villa in Marrakech's Palmeraie resort, reminding us of Yves Saint Laurent's love for Morocco. Inez and Vinoodh beautifully captured video shows Arizona fading in and out of palm trees all while wearing exquisitely cut gowns and jumpsuits from the collection. More Prabal Gurung on Mega Career Moments and Dream Collaborations!

Continuing our Fab sit-down with design guru Prabal Gurung was a play-by-play of more of the fashion moments and insider tips we can't get enough of. From the outside looking in, it may seem like Prabal launched to stardom overnight, but he assures us that's not the case. Breaking it all down, he says defining career moments include having his "first collection appear on the cover of WWD," as well as the support of celeb fans like Oprah and Michelle Obama.

But when it comes to game-changing moments, Rachel Zoe, Brad Goreski, Demi Moore, and one fabulous Prabal dress all played a significant role. "They're a huge support," he says of Rachel and Brad, who upon viewing his collection in the show room for the first time, fell in love with it all. From there, Zoe client Demi Moore became a fan, choosing a creamy black and white Prabal dress for the GQ Gentlemen's Ball in '09, a moment Prabal remembers as a major career moment. Bottom line, he says, on the red carpet, you want to feel beautiful, and "[in that dress] I think she did." We'd have to agree.

Kate Moss Goes Out to Sea and Possibly on TVs

Kate Moss and Jamie Hince joined the legions of celebrities on boats with a ride during their St. Tropez vacation yesterday. They took a raft towards a waiting yacht, where the happy couple spent the afternoon chilling and swimming with a group of friends that included Kate's old modeling pal Karen Mulder and Stefano Pilati of Yves Saint Laurent. Kate and Stefano have business to discuss now that Kate's the face of his latest fragrance, but he's not the only guy she's partnering with - more details about her forthcoming TV collaboration with Simon Cowell are coming to light, and it looks like Kate just might be heading to US TV screens.

For Yves Saint Laurent's Fall '09 campaign, Stefano Pilati channeled the '90s with the help of Christy - no last name needed. Check out the Super, decked out in all black, standing against a simplistic background shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. Christy's makeup and shimmery halter jumpsuit are very throwback, very old school - I'm not sure how I feel about it. I wouldn't think twice if someone told me this was torn out of a magazine circa '92. Christy looks like she hasn't aged a day, but the only modern element is the black leather tote. I expected a little more from Pilati; what do you think?

Behind the Seams: Stella McCartney's Parisian Party

With her dad dutifully by her side, Stella McCartney celebrated the opening of her new flagship store in Paris. "For a British designer to have a boutique here in Paris is pretty cool," said former Beatle Paul McCartney. Mingling were Stella's A-list attendees, such as Yves Saint Laurent's creative director, Stefano Pilati, and topnotch models Lily Donaldson and Lara Stone.
