Dark Complexion: Complement a darker skin tone with light-colored lenses.
Large Nose: Look to oversize frames to balance out proportions. Small frames will accentuate the nose.
Light Complexion: Contrast a lighter skin tone with dark-colored lenses.
Small Nose: Choose a high bridge that will lengthen a smaller nose.

How many pairs of sunglasses do you own? I'm in the midst of a sunglasses clean out, actually, so you don't want to know how many pairs I have accumulated over the years. Let's just say I'm trying to be more selective and smarter with my purchases. But yes, we have to protect our precious eyes from those harmful UV rays. When buying the new sunnies, considering certain factors can help narrow your search and results. Here are some suggestions on finding your perfect pair of sunnies.

To learn tips on finding the perfect pair of sunnies for round, oval, and square shaped faces,

Round Shaped Face: Look for angular, dark lenses and avoid anything round.
Oval Shaped Face: Lucky you! Your face shape can handle just about any frame shape. Square and rectangular shapes are your best bet.
Angular Shaped Face: Offset sharp features with softer shaped frames such as oval and round shaped lenses.

How to Beat the Summer Heat and Still Work Out

With all this rain we've been having on the East Coast, I'm so psyched that warmer, sunny days are here. It's finally starting to feel like Summer! It's been a shock to my system though, exercise-wise. I've been so used to running in breezy temps between the 50s and 60s that hot and humid 80-degree temps feel overwhelming. Running, biking, hiking, even walking feels harder in the heat. Here are some tips that have helped me get through my Summer workouts.

Be flexible about when you work out. I've become obsessed with checking the weather, and I look to see when the temps are going to be the lowest that day. Sometimes it's early in the morning, and sometimes late in the evening, so I rearrange my schedule to fit in exercise during the coolest time of day. A plus about morning workouts is a lot of my neighbors are watering their lawns, so I run through their sprinklers to stay even cooler.
Invest in some wicking clothes. I used to wear cotton tank tops and shorts, but they'd get sweaty, cling to my skin, and make me feel hotter. Wicking clothes pull the moisture away from my skin, so I really do feel cooler. Wearing a hat to keep the hot sun off my head and face also helps - just make sure the hat is wicking too and breathes.
Take a cold shower. I know it seems a little odd to shower before a workout, but the cold water cools me down. I leave my hair wet and pop it in a bun, and when I head outside water drips down my face and neck and it feels so refreshing. If you have short hair, carry a water bottle with you and squeeze a little on top of your head whenever you need a little cooling boost.

The sun is shining and the seagulls are singing (or more accurately, combing the beach for your sandy leftovers)-it’s summertime! You may have your swimsuit du jour squared away along with the perfect pair of sunnies, but the question remains: Are you really ready to hit the beach?

In addition to my door side “go” bag (see In the Bag: Prepped & Ready for all the details), there are a few key fashion items I keep around for hanging beachside…

Classic Cut Offs
Every gal needs a good old pair of cut off jean shorts. For me, denim cutoffs will always be a summer staple. They are as timeless as they are California cool. Lately, I’ve been wearing Levi’s because I like the looser fit and higher set waist. The Levi’s 501 cut works well with most body types. Other cute cut offs I found online include Madewell’s cuffed Midi Shorts or Urban Outfitter’s Urban Renewal Shorts.

Neutral Sandals
I cannot stress how important it is to have a great pair of neutral sandals. Your wardrobe choices are exponentially multiplied when you’ve got a pair of shoes that go with almost everything in your closet. A few of my favorites are the sandals I designed for my LC Lauren Conrad line for Kohl’s, Tory Burch’s Emmy Flats, Topshop’s Hoopa Sandals, and Aldo’s Dauster Flats. And for those of you who plan on treading into the sand, I suggest keeping a pair of Havaianas Slim Flip Flops handy (I like the sand grey and light golden color combo).

Do You Apply Sunscreen Every Day?

With Summer officially here and sunny days the norm, wearing a sunscreen has never been so important. Even though I always wear sunscreen on my face, I am not very good at remembering to wear it on other parts of my body. Dumb, I know. But after returning from the beach with a slight sunburn, I've been doing my best to apply it to the rest of my body every day too. By investing in a moisturizing sunscreen I've made it easy on myself because I don't have to put on a sunblock before a moisturizing lotion.

Besides preventing sunburn, wearing a UVA/UVB sunscreen is defense against wrinkles, sun spots, and, most importantly, skin cancer. And while it might be a pain to do this every morning, it's worth the benefits. How about you . . .
