Celebrity Style: Chloe Sevigny

Just when I was fearing a safe season of LBDs, Chloe walked the printed carpet in head-to-toe mint green Balenciaga. Phew! She stood out at the 12th Annual ACE Awards: Accessories Council Honors Fashion Influencers in an easy silk T-shirt dress, a rhinestone choker, nude swirly sandals, and a saucy metallic clutch. I covet her undone hair and her comfy chic look. If I were wearing a complete Balenciaga outfit, I would be at ease, too.

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Alexander Wang

Julia, check. Erin, check. Anna, check. Do you need last names? Wang is quickly climbing up the fashion food chain so his Spring show was sure to be a frenzied event - that it was. And how fitting that the runway and models were liquified, since Hurricane Hanna did its own wet work on the audience. Thanks to some buddies over at Page Six Magazine and their town car, I was moderately soaked. But Wang was wet n' wild.

With Miami Vice as inspiration, there were cool deco hues amidst the designer's favorite black. The collection kicked off with oversized tanks, leather (and suede) and du-rags, but soon colors emerged creating a lovingly tough aesthetic. Wang continues to deconstruct tee shirts, dresses and tee shirt dresses, thus draped and looped cotton basics were a plenty. But Wang also played with sweat pants - creating legging like layers - and jackets - from poppy blazers to loose cardigans. Some denim pieces were also Wangified; I was particularly drawn to a chain handle jean bag. And of course, Wang sent his new shoes down the slick runway, elevating the models, and the clothes, to first name status.

Fab Flash: Wangified Shoes and Diffuse

Alexander Wang is clearly on the up and up. If you dig his cool, disheleved vibe, listen up. Wang is adding shoes and a diffusion line to his Spring line up. The San Francisco native, who has always cited Kate Moss as muse, also recently upgraded his design studio in NYC. Furthermore, Wang hired a new stylist, to fill in for model and bff Erin Wasson.

“[Fall] was the season where people really recognized us,” said Wang. “We’re under a microscope now. We have to watch our moves and make sure everything we do is right.”

Come Spring 2009, a diffusion line will present cotton basics, like tanks, tees and tee shirt dresses, at $28-$40 wholesale, in everyday colors black, white and gray. But they won't be too basic. “Necklines are stretched and armholes are strategically lowered so that it looks worn in,” he explains. On the other hand, his footwear promises to be fierce. There will be five styles, all different takes on the platform sandal. The shoes will compliment his up-and-coming Spring collection which he hinted will be very colorful, focus on separates and have a slight Miami Vice vibe. Cool.

LA Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Whitley Kros

Long-time friends, Marissa Ribisi, Giovanni's twin sister and Beck's wife, and Sophia Banks have banded together to create a fun and wearable Spring collection.

Plaids, big stripes and funky prints graced kimono-sleeve cardigans, tunics, jumpsuits and t-shirt dresses. Solids were not ignored; bright hues like cobalt blue, neon yellow and hot pink made appearances with silk tops, footless tights, oversized cardigans, high-waisted skirts, and off-the-shoulder tees. Screen-printed tees included unicorns, guitars and the ABCs. It's obvious the designers paid special attention to denim. They were skinny, colored, cropped, folded, and finished with a white fly button. All were well-made and fit the models like a glove.

Talk to me a bit about your inspiration.
Marissa: The whole thing is two worlds coming together. She's from Sydney, I'm from LA. We said let's pick street names, so it's Whitley in LA and Kros in Sydney. We said that sounds like a girl so let's create a character. She's kind of like this traveler because that's what inspires us: traveling and being on the road. The concept for the line is if everything fell out of her suitcase what you would see. This collection is inspired by the Japanese Fuji Rock Festival. It's a rock festival but everyone's dressed in colorful outfits and it's rainy and muddy but they're all dressed up and really happy and cute. That's why the collection is colorful and bright.

What is your favorite piece from the collection?
Sophia: It's kind of what we're wearing.
Marissa: There's this sweater (the one she's wearing), it's really multi-functional because we're into that kind of thing. So you could wear it as a dress or as a sweater over jeans.
Sophia: I'm really into the t-shirts. We also have jeans with ABCs printed all over them.
Marissa: The main thing are the jeans. We spent eight months working on the fit. They look amazing on the models.

What was the biggest challenge you ran into along the way?
Sophia: Finding good enough quality. Finding the right people to sew the quality you want.

I noticed you didn't have much of an online presence yet...
Our website went up yesterday! Whitleykros.com. We're working on it. We're going to be huge online; it's one of our goals.

Who are your personal style icons?
Karen O from Yeah Yeah Yeahs, PJ Harvey and Sia Furler from Zero 7.

What is one wardrobe staple that every girl should have?
Jeans. Whitley Kros jeans.
