The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-see stop in NYC. It features over 30,000 costumes and accessories from around the world. Don't plan on visiting the Big Apple anytime soon? No worries. Thanks to the Met, we can now view the Costume Institute from the comfort of our own homes at www.metmuseum.org.

The online database, which will be constantly updated, allows the public to view collections from the likes of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, and Salvatore Ferragamo to name a few. From Europe to Africa, this exhibit has it all. Check it out.

Ever gone to a museum and caught yourself being rude because you were talking to your museum buddy too much while perusing? Fear no more. The Metropolitan Museum of Art wants to know what you think about their latest Costume Institute exhibition and they want you to share it with the whole world. They have embraced the enthralling world we know as blogging with blog.mode: addressing fashion where you can comment live from the eight computers set up in the galleries. Then, the rest of us can hear what you had to say about a black jersey Commes de Garcon dress from the debut collection of 1983 or a pair of Damien Hirst-designed polka dot ankle boots by Manolo Blahnik. If you're in NYC, be sure to check out the exhibit - which runs through April 13 - and blog all about it!

Step Inside the Model as Muse Exhibit

As you know, this year's Costume Institute Gala was all about models. The red carpet and parties are no longer, but the Met exhibition - The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion - will remain until Aug. 9. It focuses on iconic models from the 20th century, and features couture and ready-to-wear pieces, fashion photography, as well as video footage. For those who can't see the presentation in real life, here's a look . . .

Who Do You Want to Win Project Runway?

Here I thought we had a few more episodes of Project Runway to go, but last night was the last challenge episode before the finale. Not only that, but Heidi announced that there would be two eliminations at the end of the episode - cue the stress! Once reality sunk in, Tim Gunn swept the designers off to The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where they each chose one painting or sculpture for inspiration.

Rami picked an Aphrodite sculpture (surprise!), Sweet P a peacock painting, Christian a courtly painting of a Spanish man, Jillian the master of the warring Argonauts, and Chris an eighteenth-century noblewoman. Rami and Chris ended up making outfits that looked similar to past episodes, Sweet P went commercial, Christian took his look to the extreme, and Jillian was stellar as always - but what I really want to know is: Who do you want to win?!

Fab Flash: Superheroes at the 2008 Costume Institute Exhibit

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has chosen "Superheroes: Fashion and Fantasy" as the theme of its Spring exhibit. The museum plans to explore the superhero's iconic costume of cape, mask, and bodysuit as it has appeared in fashion. The exhibit, which is co-chaired by Giorgio Armani, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Vogue editor Anna Wintour, will run from May 7 to September 1, and the accompanying gala, known as the Oscars of the fashion industry, will be hosted on May 5.

Approximately 70 ensembles will be featured, from high-performance sportswear and iconic movie costumes to avant-garde couture looks spanning the decades, all inspired by Catwoman, Wonder Woman, the X-Men, and more. Designers represented include everyone from Balenciaga, Armani, and Alexander McQueen to Jeremy Scott, Pierre Cardin, and Nike.

Fab Flash: "Poiret: King of Fashion" at the Met in NYC

Two of the most influential people in fashion today, Anna Wintour and Balenciaga designer, Nicolas Ghesquière, along with a whole bunch of A-List celebs, gathered at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute to Celebrate Paul Poiret last night. Everybody who is anybody attended the Gala and they were dressed to impress.

Paul Poiret was a fashion pioneer who freed women of corsetry and adopted shocking colors and exotic references of the Ballets Russes to the haute couture. The height of his career was pre-World War I France when he was dubbed the undisputed "King of Fashion." As we know fashion is cyclic, so not only are we going to be seeing more of his influence on the runways but his pieces are now official works of art.

A lot of you showed interest in fashion's emerging Great Gatsby direction so if you happen to be in NYC between May 9 – August 5 be sure to check out this exhibit!
