LA Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Lauren Conrad

I'm sure it was a raging afterparty because it looks like our Hills heroine put on a successful Lauren Conrad Collection runway show last night. Her Spring lineup was inspired by the beauty of Spring. OK, that's sort of ambiguous - allow me to elaborate. With her usual flirty silhouettes, Lauren upped the fabrics, detailing and prints for Spring. She showed an array of solid jersey dresses, both cocktail and maxi, but there was plenty beside those usual suspects. I quite fancy the artsy floral and beige-and-white chiffon polka-dot prints. One thing about Lauren is she manages to deliver pieces that are both sexy and girlie. Sexy: The white ruched formfitting dress. Girlie: The ladylike separates.

Accessories were also highlighted adding some Spring flair. I've never been a fan of rosettes - worn here as headbands - but I am a fan of geometric bangles. Lauren came out to warm round of applause in the end, the only way from here is up.

Another day, another Lauren Conrad collection. For her 17-piece Holiday line, Lauren's motto is "Girls Just Want to Have Fun." Amen. We work hard, so we should play hard, too! This time around, you will not only find signature pared down pieces, but also fun prints and sassy silhouettes to make your holidays more entertaining. Bright asymmetrical party frocks, high-waisted skirts, and draped tops are only the beginning. The prices are still steep ($155-265) but if you're craving a Lauren Conrad Collection piece, this collection is where your money should go.

FABTV: Siriano and LC Outfit the Emmys

The majority of you loved Lauren's Emmy dress she designed for herself. We thought it was pretty, but a bit ho-hum. Her second gown of the night, on one of the trophy girls, was also revealed last night. The dresses were complimentary, but nothing over-the-top fabulous. Maybe they wanted the drama to be saved for stunners like Christina Applegate and Olivia Wilde. It was fun to see Project Runway superstar Christian Siriano at the Emmys too - another first - and he designed the deep red tiered dress the other trophy girl wore. Two very different styles from budding designers. What did you think about either? Or both?!

As I write this Lauren is being interviewed on E!. We all know Lauren designed her gown and the gowns for the trophy girls. She revealed both gowns are going to be similar, they're "kinda twinsies." Her strapless navy Lauren Conrad Collection gown with diamond brooch at the bodice is nice, but safe. At the Emmys we like drama, and that her dress is lacking. What do you think?

Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2012

The Marc by Marc Jacobs collection was all about the schoolgirl gone grunge. Loose trapeze-like dresses and combat boots melded with pleated skirts and pretty bouclé coats resulting in a mashup of feminine cool tinged with military touches. The main focus were full-skirted dresses made in floral prints, metallic finishes, plaid, velvet, and sheer mesh. Outerwear featured a standout fur collared anorak and plenty of ladylike coats. We were especially smitten with the polished textural coats, nipped in at the waist with leather belts. For accessories, Jacobs highlighted a range of structured satchels, military caps, and punkish lace-up boots. Read more highlights below, then see the complete collection in the slideshow.

Trends: Full skirts, bouclé, plaid.
Colors: Red, blue, black, gray, brown, gold.
Key Piece: The fur-collared anorak coat and full-skirted dresses were key standouts.
Accessories: Lace-up boots military boots, structured satchels, military caps.
Who Would Wear It: We can easily see Lauren Conrad or Elle Fanning wearing the cute dresses and coats.

Fall in Love . . . With Belted Coats

We are thrilled to share this story from Lauren Conrad! The TV personality, writer, designer, and style maven has started LaurenConrad.com, a social networking site that features daily posts by Lauren on all of our favorite topics - fashion, beauty, food, party planning - and Lauren will be sharing her latest fashion finds with Fab every month. This week, she's sharing her favorite belted coats.

It’s easy to look frumpy during the Winter when you’re hidden beneath layers upon layers of clothing. But you don’t have to be a fashion victim just because the mercury dropped. Instead, take a cue from Burberry Prorsum and Diane von Furstenberg and belt that bulky coat of yours! Defined waists are coming back in a major way for 2012, which makes belted coats the perfect transitional piece for this trend. I love the belted look because I think it’s a nice way to create a waist when it’s cold. And I love the understated femininity of the look as well. As a matter of fact, I even designed one for an upcoming Paper Crown collection (stay tuned!).

The belted look can be achieved a couple of ways: Simply cinch your coat or jacket at the waist with your favorite belt or buy a pre-belted (or waist-tie) coat/jacket. You can even work this trend with a closed blazer and cute belt, too. The belted coat works for all body types. It’s universally flattering and adds the ultimate chic-factor to drab Winter wear. The best part? It’s a cinch!
