Paying Homage to McQueen - the Met Plans an Exhibition

In the ultimate tribute, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced plans to honor McQueen's legacy with an exhibit dedicated to the design talent and fashion world provocateur. Set for next Spring, the museum will stage “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” a celebration of the designer's work, open May 4 through July 3.

With plans to feature nearly 100 pieces, Andrew Bolton, who is spearheading the exhibit, is gathering designs that span the designer's full breadth of work, beginning with his graduate collection at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and culminating with his final collection. Ultimately, it's about honoring the design genius and his "singular voice"; says Bolt, "We want to get across two elements - the spectacle of the runway presentations and the beauty of his craftsmanship.” We couldn't think of a more fitting way to pay homage.

One of my favorite things about May is The Met's Costume Institute gala. Since this year's theme is the American woman, we've decided to pay tribute to some of our favorite American designers who helped dress them. First up is the illustrious Ralph Lauren. Did you know his yearning for fashion and design started as a young boy working after school so he could buy himself suits? Cute. That was then, and now, Ralph Lauren is one of the biggest designers in American history. Throughout the years, Ralph has made a name for himself, pumping out classic cuts and sophisticated styles. Take a trip down memory lane and check out some of our favorite Ralph moments.

The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-see stop in NYC. It features over 30,000 costumes and accessories from around the world. Don't plan on visiting the Big Apple anytime soon? No worries. Thanks to the Met, we can now view the Costume Institute from the comfort of our own homes at www.metmuseum.org.

The online database, which will be constantly updated, allows the public to view collections from the likes of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, and Salvatore Ferragamo to name a few. From Europe to Africa, this exhibit has it all. Check it out.

Ever gone to a museum and caught yourself being rude because you were talking to your museum buddy too much while perusing? Fear no more. The Metropolitan Museum of Art wants to know what you think about their latest Costume Institute exhibition and they want you to share it with the whole world. They have embraced the enthralling world we know as blogging with blog.mode: addressing fashion where you can comment live from the eight computers set up in the galleries. Then, the rest of us can hear what you had to say about a black jersey Commes de Garcon dress from the debut collection of 1983 or a pair of Damien Hirst-designed polka dot ankle boots by Manolo Blahnik. Gwyneth Paltrow Celebrates a Big New Deal With Hugo Boss

Gwyneth Paltrow flashed a little smile as she walked through London's Heathrow airport today. She's off on a trip after a big announcement last week. Gwyneth Paltrow is the new face of Hugo Boss and will front the new campaign for their Boss Nuit Pour Femme fragrance. The ads are scheduled to come out later this year in August and September. Speaking about their new collaboration, Gwyneth told WWD, "To me, the Boss woman is driven, ambitious, and goes after what she wants, but she balances being strong and very feminine at the same time - characteristics that I strive towards in my own life."

Gwyneth was in the UK following a recent stint in NYC, where she attended the Met Gala. Gwyneth wore a Prada dress that showed a lot of skin, including her Tracy Anderson-toned legs. Gwyneth was pictured making the social rounds inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art, saying hello to pals like Beyoncé Knowles and Justin Timberlake. Her husband Chris Martin has had an equally travel-filled two weeks as he tours with Coldplay. He's due in Portugal Friday for a quick tour of Europe that will also take him to Spain, France, Italy, and Switzerland.

Kristen Stewart Trades Her Balenciaga Dress For Jeans and a Tee Post Met Gala

Kristen Stewart's Balenciaga dress at the Met Gala wasn't on for long. The actress traded the frock for her favorite combo - a leather jacket, jeans, and a tee - before heading to an afterparty at the Top of the Standard. Earlier in the day, Kristen was seen rocking the jacket around NYC as well. Kristen attended the bash at the Metropolitan Museum of Art on the arm of Balenciaga's designer Nicolas Ghesquière. Her relationship with the brand is well established, and she's the latest face of their perfumes. Kristen also ventured to Paris earlier this year to check out Balenciaga's Fall 2012 show in March.

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder Hit the Met Gala Afterparties Together

Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder were side by side last night to attend the Met Gala afterparty at the Top of the Standard. Nina wore a long Donna Karan gown for fashion's biggest evening, and her boyfriend Ian was dapper in his own tux. Ian and Nina are together again after work took him to Spain last week. Ian wasn't, though, by Nina's side on the red carpet as she arrived for the main event at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Ian seemed to revel in the exciting star sightings offered last night. He tweeted from the Standard, "You know you are at a very cool party when Mick Jagger is dancing by himself next to you chilling and grooving in his own world."
