Paying Homage to McQueen - the Met Plans an Exhibition

In the ultimate tribute, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art announced plans to honor McQueen's legacy with an exhibit dedicated to the design talent and fashion world provocateur. Set for next Spring, the museum will stage “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,” a celebration of the designer's work, open May 4 through July 3.

With plans to feature nearly 100 pieces, Andrew Bolton, who is spearheading the exhibit, is gathering designs that span the designer's full breadth of work, beginning with his graduate collection at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London and culminating with his final collection. Ultimately, it's about honoring the design genius and his "singular voice"; says Bolt, "We want to get across two elements - the spectacle of the runway presentations and the beauty of his craftsmanship.” We couldn't think of a more fitting way to pay homage.

One of my favorite things about May is The Met's Costume Institute gala. Since this year's theme is the American woman, we've decided to pay tribute to some of our favorite American designers who helped dress them. First up is the illustrious Ralph Lauren. Did you know his yearning for fashion and design started as a young boy working after school so he could buy himself suits? Cute. That was then, and now, Ralph Lauren is one of the biggest designers in American history. Throughout the years, Ralph has made a name for himself, pumping out classic cuts and sophisticated styles. Take a trip down memory lane and check out some of our favorite Ralph moments.

On Our Radar: Costume Institute Database Goes Online

The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art is a must-see stop in NYC. It features over 30,000 costumes and accessories from around the world. Don't plan on visiting the Big Apple anytime soon? No worries. Thanks to the Met, we can now view the Costume Institute from the comfort of our own homes at www.metmuseum.org.

The online database, which will be constantly updated, allows the public to view collections from the likes of Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent, Lanvin, and Salvatore Ferragamo to name a few. From Europe to Africa, this exhibit has it all. Check it out.

Ever gone to a museum and caught yourself being rude because you were talking to your museum buddy too much while perusing? Fear no more. The Metropolitan Museum of Art wants to know what you think about their latest Costume Institute exhibition and they want you to share it with the whole world. They have embraced the enthralling world we know as blogging with blog.mode: addressing fashion where you can comment live from the eight computers set up in the galleries. Then, the rest of us can hear what you had to say about a black jersey Commes de Garcon dress from the debut collection of 1983 or a pair of Damien Hirst-designed polka dot ankle boots by Manolo Blahnik. Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick Toast the Premiere of Smash

Sarah Jessica Parker was by Matthew Broderick's side last night for an NBC party celebrating the premiere of the new series Smash. Many of the show's stars hit the red carpet, including Anjelica Huston, Debra Messing, Katherine McPhee, Uma Thurman, and Megan Hilty. The event came a week before Smash's premiere airs on Feb. 6 - find out what we think of the Smash pilot. It's an ambitious project from NBC and executive producer Steven Spielberg about theater people trying to do a Broadway version of Marilyn Monroe's life. The cast was recently together on the West Coast to talk about their midseason debut and the inevitable comparisons to another popular musical program, Glee. Producer Craig Zadan spoke about a possible rivalry at the TCAs, saying, "I don't think the show is like Glee, but we feel grateful to Glee for opening that door."

Debra Messing mingled with the other actors at the event, and apparently even met her new guy's parents! Debra Messing is dating costar Will Chase after separating from her husband Daniel Zelman. Yesterday, Debra met Will's mother and father at a dinner near the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Will I find good work there?

In today's tough market, Generation Y has had a particularly difficult time finding and keeping a job: While the job market struggles to regain its footing, with the national unemployment rate at 9.5% as of June, 25- to 34-year-olds suffer joblessness at a 10.3% rate, and 20- to 24-year-olds are unemployed at a staggering 15.3% rate. But some areas have held up better against the recession. Austin, Tex., Salt Lake City and Washington, D.C., for example, have experienced lower unemployment than the rest of the country.

Jobs in certain industries are more prevalent in some areas. For example, if you’re interested in politics, the nation’s capital is the obvious choice. Or if you aspire to “make it work” as fashion’s next hot designer, the Big Apple might suit you best. Lauren Bush and David Lauren Share Their Wedding Pictures in Vogue

Lauren Bush and David Lauren married at his father, Ralph's, Ridgway, CO ranch Sept. 4, and they're now sharing images from the special day in the Charlize Theron-covered December issue of Vogue. Photographer Mark Seliger snapped Lauren in a carriage en route to her nuptials, which she described as having a "rustic elegance." After a honeymoon on Italy's Amalfi coast, the couple reunited in the Big Apple to do an official portrait with Norman Jean Roy.

David shared the story of his proposal with the magazine, saying he surprised Lauren last year with a special room filled with just photos of their relationship at NYC's Metropolitan Museum of Art. He told the magazine, "I created our own exhibition of our life together. And I got down on my knee and proposed. Then we went outside and took a carriage ride with a clarinetist and a saxophonist following us." Lauren spoke about the process of creating her gown, which looked a lot like Kate Middleton's, with Ralph Lauren. She said, "I wanted something modern as well, so there is the high-necked collar and puffed shoulders with the large open back.” Lauren went wild with the Western theme, pairing the elegant frock with a pair of cowboy boots.

Gold and platinum MasterCards, Visa Signature cards and American Express cards all extend the manufacturer's warranty by up to one year when you use the cards to purchase items. If you lose or break that new laptop or digital camera within 90 days of purchasing it with Citi's new ThankYou Premier card, Citi will pay to repair or replace it or reimburse you - up to $1,000 per claim. The same is true for purchases made with your American Express card (the $450-per-year Platinum card has a limit of $10,000).

The actress and her family have been hanging out in the Big Apple for the last few weeks, and it seems they are already acquainted with city's most fun spots. Isla visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Costume Institute Gala, then explored some West Village hangouts for lunch with her pal Naomi Watts. Isla also took a solo Summer stroll two days ago, looking ready for warm temperatures in a floral sundress. She's gearing up to start working on The Great Gatsby with costar Leonardo DiCaprio, who's been enjoying a break between projects over in Europe with friends like Naomi Campbell and his new love interest, Blake Lively.
