New York's Fall Fashion Week is winding down, and even though here at Buzz we don't cover style like our friends at FabSugar, that doesn't mean we can't appreciate a film about the glam industry. So in honor of the busy time, let's take a look at some of the memorable movies revolving around the fashion biz. She confirmed to WWD that she'll be collaborating with former Men's Vogue Editor in Chief Jay Fielden, who also helped to write and edit her first book in 2002, Grace: Thirty Years of Fashion at Vogue. We're anxiously awaiting her second book, a look at a rich "fashion history," her days as a model, and journey to Vogue - and, if you are too, get a head start with a look at five Coddington facts you'll hear more of when the memoir debuts.

What to Rent: New DVD Tuesday

If you feel like bumming around this week, I have the perfect couch potato companion: new DVD releases! Here are my three picks, but Sorority Row and Everybody's Fine also hit shelves today if you want to add them to your queue.

The Informant!

Part crime caper, part silly comedy, The Informant! stars Matt Damon as the bumbling vice president of a major agricultural corporation who goes undercover with the FBI to expose the company's shady price-fixing. Damon's mustache and his inner ramblings are good for laughs - and he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his performance - but I was left scratching my head over the jumbled plot towards the middle of the movie. Maybe it'd be easier to follow a second time around?

The September Issue

Giving us an insider look into the secret world of Vogue, The September Issue is full of flashbulbs, celebrities, gorgeous gowns, and (somewhat surprisingly), heart. Yes, we get to see the infamous Anna Wintour without her trademark glasses, but I admittedly fell even more in love with her coworker, friend, and nemesis Grace Coddington. The film is style and substance – and a great watch for the weekend.

Extras include 90 minutes of extra footage, including Wintour putting together the high profile Met Ball.

The Box Richard Kelly's thriller The Box stars Cameron Diaz and James Marsden as a suburban couple in the '70s who are offered a million dollars if they press a button - causing the death of a stranger. The movie's premise and Kelly's direction have a lot of promise, but the mass of loose ends, bad dialogue, and cheesy scares didn't satisfy me. However, Kelly's debut Donnie Darko found its audience on DVD, so The Box could as well. Extras include a featurette with Richard Matheson who wrote the short story "Button, Button" on which the movie is based. 44%

What Is the Best Little-Movie-That-Could of 2009?

Everyone loves an underdog, and 2009 seemed to be the year for them. Several movies with lesser-known stars and/or low budgets held their own against their Goliath-sized counterparts, winning the hearts of fans and critics alike. Time will only tell if they can pull off a dark horse upset in awards season, but I'm willing to wager that a couple of these will at least earn mentions. Tell me, which is your favorite?

Tech Takes a Backseat in The September Issue

I've been patiently waiting to see The September Issue ever since Fab showed us the trailer back in June, and I finally got the chance to make it to the theater over the weekend.

The documentary follows Vogue's stoic editor Anna Wintour as she prepares for the biggest issue release of the year and chronicles the pressures that follow. Naturally, I was interested in seeing the fashion and getting a behind-the-scenes look at how the magazine runs, but I was hoping for some tech sightings as well.

Although there wasn't much gadget eye candy in the film, we first see Anna onscreen rocking two phones - a BlackBerry and a Motorola RAZR - on her way into the office. One for work and one for play, I presume. At first I was surprised to see Anna wielding that particular flip phone (I guess I was expecting her to tote a high-fashion Dior or Prada phone), but then I remembered this was filmed in 2007 - RAZRs were all the rage back then.

read more. In The September Issue, we see Anna using both a black and white MacBook in her office, as well as a MacBook Pro when she presents the final cut of the issue to the executives. Tech took a backseat in this film, but I can't complain - the fashion more than made up for its absence.

The September Issue: Lots of Fashion, Lots of Feeling

Now this is a movie about fashion. Not glorifying it, not mocking it, not fictional. If you too consider fashion to be your number one, you will thoroughly enjoy this film. I'm not saying you're going to want to run to NYC and join the ranks at Vogue, but you will witness what happens behind the scenes, meet the players, and, finally, meet Anna, glasses off. I was lucky enough to chat with the film's director, RJ Cutler, after I viewed the film, and he shined many a light on how the film came about, how it changed his perception of the world of fashion, and how fascinating of a story it is. This is the story of The September Issue . . .

It's a given the film reveals the extensive work that goes into creating the biggest issue of the year. Along the way we visit with Anna, her daughter Bee Shaffer (briefly), and other masthead characters. Most notably, the magazine's famed editor Grace Coddington and comic-reliever André Leon Talley.

read more. RJ Cutler confirmed the movie was all access. It was a very intimate experience: only RJ, one camera man, and one sound man captured the scenes. Naturally, it took a while to gain trust. Especially with Coddington, who needed four months to warm up to the camera. He believes, "We see it clearly." And when Anna opens up about her family toward the end, "The relationship was in a certain place, we found it." The film is smoothly edited, provides plenty of fashion eye candy - both at Fashion Weeks and photos shoots - and leaves you wanting more. And leaves you feeling more. You feel for Grace, a true artist struggling in a new technology and celebrity-driven zeitgeist. You feel for André when he declares the season "a famine of beauty." You feel for the writer whose piece gets poohed poohed by Anna, but it's Grace who saves him, telling him, "You've got to be tougher." Grace has the tough Vogue love down. The dynamic between Anna and Grace, who both started working at the fashion bible the same day, had the deepest resonance for Cutler. Cutler explained these women are "at the top of their game and go at it in the cause of beauty. They are changing their world." It's painful to see Grace go through the rejection emotions; it's empowering to see Anna make the decisions. The director gained a respect and understanding of the infamous fashion industry - as does the watcher. RJ admitted to knowing nothing about fashion when started the project. "On one hand, fashion is frivolous, excessive, indulgent, and vain. It is also essential. It says something to the world. It drives economies - shipping, textiles, journalism, publishing, advertising. It affects the culture and contributes to the definition of beauty." Intrigued? See it, sunglasses off.

Behind the Seams: The September Issue, LA Screening

The September Issue opens at a theater near you this Friday - look out for my review earlier that day - but the stars got to see the highly anticipated flick last night. The Los Angeles County Museum of Art was the location and the guest list included Ginnifer Goodwin, Shenae Grimes, Jennifer Morrison, and more. Unlike us, who go to the movies in jeans, these celebs donned the cutest frocks. To their defense, there was a red carpet rolled out for the screening. Proceed to find out who showed up and what they wore.
