Velvet might just be our new Winter wardrobe BFF. Its plush texture, cozy feel, and luxe look make it the perfect "something extra" in our chilly weather fashion endeavors. From jewel-toned loafers at Jenni Kayne to statement patterned pants at Proenza Schouler, velvet was no stranger on the Fall 2011 runways. Additionally, Olivier Theyskens incorporated the textile into his capsule collection for Theory, Marc Jacobs designed gorgeous black velvet capes, and Alice Temperley debuted a bevy of sophisticated floor-length evening gowns. It's safe to say - our latest fabric obsession is both validated and totally on point. Not sure how to include the trend du jour into your own style MO? Keep these tips in mind:

The lightweight fabric can add a dynamic twist to your standard getup. No need to wear in moderation - velvet can texturize a bold printed dress or cinch a look together with ease. If you're new to the trend, try it out subtly via pumps, a sash, a collar detail, or a clutch.

Get the Look: J.Crew's "Gone Hollywood" Photo Shoot

If you haven't taken a look at the fun photos that comprise the new J.Crew "Gone Hollywood" lookbook, go take a peek. There's a really fun, California spirit to the shoot, and it doesn't hurt that the male model is actually Sam Page, who you may remember from episodes of Mad Men and Gossip Girl. One of my favorite pages from the photo shoot is the bedroom, and luckily, you can easily get the look. Start with a tufted, velvet headboard in a rich goldenrod hue - the Urban Outfitters Velvet Tufted Headboard ($350) in antique gold is a close match. Layer the bed with lots of high thread count white cotton linens, luxurious, high loft down pillows, and a few choice throw pillows, and voilà! You can almost pretend that you're in the middle of a "Gone Hollywood" adventure, though it's up to you to provide the wardrobe and the script pages to toss.
