A First Look at Versace's Fall/Winter 2012 Campaign: Donatella Would Wear Every Look

Lucky magazine is one of our favorite sources for great shopping tips. We're thrilled to share this fabulous story from our friends at Lucky!

Summer officially arrives in less than a week but the Versace team is already thinking about next season. The brand just released its Fall/Winter 2012 campaign and although the clothes are technically for cooler weather, we wouldn't mind wearing them now. The über sexy Italian label isn't really big on covering up, so most of the pieces would probably work for a breezy May or June night. But since nothing hits stores for at least two or three months, we're happy to obsess over the pictures first.

The black and white images feature model Elza Luijendijk with a severe blonde bob, posing on chain-covered cement bricks with big moody photographs of the ocean in the background. The styling was clearly influenced by head designer Donatella; we could see her wearing every single look on the red carpet-especially that black mini dress with the knee-high boots.

It might be black, but Angelina Jolie's Atelier Versace gown is anything but basic. With sculptural folds at the neckline and a seriously sexy slit (even that's an understatement), Angelina's look says Hollywood royalty with elegance and ease. She needs little else to complete the look, save for a classic red lip, full voluminous waves, and a pair of Salvatore Ferragamo peep-toe platforms to highlight her killer stems. What do you think?

Versace Fall 2012

The Versace Fall 2012 collection was all about the Rooney Mara goth chick-meets-Joan of Arc goddess hero, right down to the bluntly cut bangs and barely-there eyebrows. But this no-nonsense kind of girl certainly knows how to dress up. The dark palette and edgy shapes were inspired by brother Gianni's final collection, "an era," Donatella said she finally had "the courage to go back to." The result? Strong dress silhouettes - some in tough leather, some in chain-mesh satin, for example - were highlighted by Byzantine cross embroidery, a slick metallic sheen, and corseted bodices that closely resembled metal armor. But not to fear, the signature Versace hourglass figure remained intact, thanks to artful peplum details and silver accents that strategically emphasized the waistline. To illustrate our point, just look to one jaw-dropping chain-linked silver disc gown for bombshell confirmation. We think this standout number proves a worthy candidate for rush delivery to the Oscars red carpet. To polish off the Fall '12 lineup with a saucy minx undertone, Donatella sent models out wearing fishnet mesh boots, fishnet gloves, and holding cross-embroidered clutches. At this point, provocative ensembles have become the singer's norm, but when Nicki Minaj showed up to tonight's awards in a cascading red cape and a costumed pope in tow, we have to admit she made our jaws drop. Minaj's fiery red Versace robe, complete with a beaded silhouette and matching red gloves, may just be the artist's most dramatic outfit yet.
