W Hotels Get Into Fashion

W Hotel is no longer just your go-to place for lodging. It's now also going to be your go-to spot for fashion. The hospitality chain just announced it's launching a fashion line made up of apparel and accessories. Designers such as Alex and Ani, Foley + Corina, Lauren Merkin, VIX, and Wink have been tapped as designers. "W is a design-led brand, therefore fashion is a tool to engage our guests in design. The people we're after are trendsetters and fashion-forward. We have a passion for fashion," said Eva Ziegler, global brand leader of W. The line, dubbed Global Glam, will be introduced on Sept. 10 at Fashion's Night Out.

If you need a 2009 calendar, let me suggest the most fashionable out there: the W Hotels/CFDA 2009 Calendar ($15). What makes this more special than others? For one, it's designed to look like a sketchbook, includes blank sketch pages, and has room to hold a pencil.

Coolest part, 12 designers, - Diane von Furstenberg, the Rag & Bone boys, Victoria Bartlett - were asked to contribute an exclusive image that has inspired their creative process. Plus, 100 percent of the proceeds will be donated to the CFDA Foundation. I can't think of one reason not to buy this calendar.

Last night was a busy one for many celebrities at Cannes. Milla Jovovich was decked out to make the rounds, starting at the Chopard and L'Oréal bash at the Hotel Martinez. She mingled at L'Oréal with fellow brand ambassadors Luisana Lopilato and model Natasha Poly. We caught a moment with Milla at the soiree, and she spoke about what her favorite part of the festival has been. Milla said, "The last two years I brought my daughter, so it's all about getting my work done and getting back to bed to sleep with my little girl. She was all day at the beach - loves it, loves it. She met a little friend here. They're best friends now - in the whole world - after one day together." Milla and her husband Paul W. S. Anderson are the proud parents of 4-year-old Ever.

The next stop on the party agenda was de Grisogono's Glam Extravaganza at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in nearby Antibes. There, Milla caught up with celeb pals like Heidi Klum, Alec Baldwin and his fiancée Hilaria Thomas, Adrien Brody, and the Hilton sisters. Both Nicky and Paris are making the rounds this week. Adriana Lima Celebrates Pregnancy News With Husband Marko Jaric

Adriana Lima held hands with her husband Marko Jaric last night as they headed into an event hosted by the Brazil Foundation Gala at the W Hotel in South Beach. The supermodel attended the Miami bash in support of her home country, and headed inside for a dinner with other famous Brazilians like racecar driver Helio Castroneves, model Isabeli Fontana, and Marc Jacobs's on-off boyfriend Lorenzo Martone. Lorenzo and Isabeli emceed the soiree, which raised $72,000 for the organization.

There was an additional reason for Marko and Adriana, who have been married for three years, to celebrate. It was confirmed last week that Adriana Lima is pregnant with the couple's second child! They're already parents to 2-year-old Valentina. In a statement, Adriana said, "The entire family is very excited, especially Valentina. She keeps blowing kisses to my belly and saying, 'Kisses for the baby.'"

If you're like I was a few years ago, buying a mattress from a store was akin to purchasing a used car: stressful, high pressure, and not fun.
In 2009, I partnered up with the Simmons bedding company to create a line of eco-friendly mattresses called the Simmons Natural Care by Danny Seo. It was my attempt to do a mainstream line of eco beds that would be sold in retail stores nationwide and come with all the bells and whistles Simmons mattresses are known for: great customer service, white glove delivery, long and trustworthy warranty. The line was a hit.

This post isn't about my beds, but about the insider tricks and tips I learned about the mattress business and what consumers should know and do when shopping. Here are my top 5 tips:

Bring Your Pillow. When you sleep at home, most of us do not lay flat on your back, shoes on, head firmly pressed against a bare mattress. Yet, we do that all the time when "test driving" beds in stores. Since you can't strip down to your PJs in the store, do the next best thing: bring your pillow. Resting your head on whatever number of pillows you normally sleep on will give you a true feel for how a new mattress will feel when you sleep on it.
Don't Bother Looking For a Lower Price. Some stores have the tagline "If you find a lower price, it's free!" but the truth is, you will likely never find a lower price. Regional chains work with mattress manufacturers to make special version of popular beds. So instead of just selling a Simmons Natural Care mattress, it could be called The Simmons Natural New Hope model or The Simmons Natural Care Iverness Valley. These model names are often unique to stores, so finding a lower price can be next to impossible. If you find a bed you like, negotiate with the store and don't bother shopping around.
