Yigal Azrouël designed his Fall '12 collection for a woman who is "fearless in her outlook and quiet in her confidence." Drawing from the spirit of Françoise Hardy, Yigal sent sophisticated, ladylike looks with an exotic twist down the runway. To put it simply, it was a luxurious mélange of plush raccoon-fur cossacks, long cashmere coats with leather-trimmed pockets, pebble-printed silk jumpsuits, snakeskin gloves, and one jaw-dropping laser-cut crepe leather gown. Add to the mix lambskin pants and structured leather jackets in a covetable palette of autumnal henna, bordeaux, and evergreen hues, and you've got a cold-weather wardrobe worth lusting after. As Yigal put it, this collection is all about "the unintentional beauty in mystery."

Trends: Ultra-luxe outwear, contoured hoods, reinvented wool silhouettes, and exotic textures.
Colors: Henna red, bordeaux purple, muted navy, pale forest green, and slick black-and-brown combos.
Key Piece: We love the juxtaposition of this floor-length black gown - precise laser-cut detail and daring proportions all in one go.

Yigal Azrouel has a way with drape; his collections are known for their sexy sleek dresses. In recent seasons he's experimented with sporty silhouettes and edgy styles, but for Spring 2012 he returned to a much sleeker, simpler point. We couldn't be happier. Figure-flattering dresses, done in a clear, solid palette, shone. Many had thigh-high slits, all of them had a fluidity that made for easy Spring dressing. Our favorite? Any of the bold red dresses; they're major statement makers.

Surprises for Spring '12: This is the first time that I am doing three shows so it is quite hectic, but that is what I find the most exhilarating about the whole process and experience. We are also experimenting with a lot of new proportions and playing with a lot of fabric manipulation.

New, softer iterations of textured, ratted hair, dramatic eye color, and braiding came down the runway, with a little naturalism to balance things out. Nine a.m. was an early wake-up call for Yigal Azrouel's Fall 2011 showing, but those who made it were given a instant jolt of energy thanks to the designer's cool and colorful menswear inspired collection. The line was all about "celebrating the strength and power of artistic femininity," which Azrouel expertly exemplified through wool cropped boy pants, oversize knit "tail" tops, pleated bib blouses, and covetable coats. Bright splashes of color - we especially loved the bright mandarin orange and cobalt blue - were tempered with neutral hues giving us just the right amount of pop for Fall. There were also details, like tuxedo stripes, leather trim, and cute custom bow-ties, which furthered the boyish theme. The outwear was also a force to be reckoned with: classic herringbone coats, leather and fur jackets, and streamlined oversize blazer toppers will be chic and cozy options come next Fall. 2011 Spring New York Fashion Week: Yigal Azrouël

Don't let the futuristic neon pink eyeliner or slick high buns fool you - Yigal Azrouël’s Spring 2011 collection is the portrait of soft, light, and feminine. Every blouse, every dress was created from the sheerest of sheer chiffons and silks. Even the drawstring shorts and elastic-waistband pants seem comfy. Azrouël paid a lot of attention to the backside detailing: geometric cutouts (rectangles and color blocks), buttons lined from the neck down, and fly-away draping. Delicate fabrics aside, what makes the Azrouël gal stand out? With color contrasting, of course. We were completely drawn to the vibrant yellows, stark whites, striped chambray, and a dash of blue bandeau. This is a definite mix-and-match collection, so combine sheers with solid shorts, or grab the white tailored blazer for a chic touch.

Azrouël’s airy fabrics were paired with more structured textures in shades of melon, olive, and pink, with special attention to back draping and detail. Tailored jackets and pants punctuated the feminine look with some masculine accents.
