Last night's Metropolitan Opera gala premiere of Jules Massenet's Manon didn't just bring about gorgeous vocals and dramatic scenery onstage. Offstage on the black carpet, a stylish crew of celebs dressed to the nines, all wearing superchic iterations of Yves Saint Laurent no less. Chloë Moretz chose a sophisticated tiered midnight-blue gown, complete with a black velvet bow and a black choker; Amber Heard exuded her signature sultry glamour in a silky black number; Emmy Rossum opted for rich magenta tones and a bold embellished choker; January Jones wore a sleek drape-neck creation with sexy back cutouts; and Emma Roberts kept it playful and fun in a slick jumpsuit. Stefano Pilati bid adieu to Yves Saint Laurent with a dark, sexy Fall 2012 in all moody iterations of womanly dress. There's both a sultry undercurrent and a definitive strength that runs throughout Pilati's finale. It's a give and take - boxier leather jackets and trousers, and sharp outerwear have as much of a place as slinky dresses and pencil skirts constructed in light-reflecting mesh. Even when Pilati zeroes in on more masculine construction, he never misses the mark of a woman - nearly every look is completed with a wide belt to accentuate the waist and plush fur accents are thrown effortlessly over shoulders. It's the kind of thing that - without being glaringly obvious - speaks to the power, the allure of a woman. It's not done up in bells and whistles, but you have a sense that it takes a certain kind of confidence to pull off the line's structured, streamlined white suit or ultralow necklines - and it's clear Pilati's florals are crafted for women, not girls.

Stefano Pilati Out at Yves Saint Laurent

Change is the air: after last week's news of Raf Simons's departure at Jil Sander, it has just been announced that Stefano Pilati will be showing his last Yves Saint Laurent collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 5. "I exit the house with fierce conviction in all that we have achieved and deep gratitude to those who have supported me along the way," said Pilati. "I wish the maison Yves Saint Laurent and its new creative director the very best for the future." Pilati, who has been at Yves Saint Laurent since 2004, has been criticized over the years for his inconsistent collections. While some received rave reviews - Pilati's "Tribute" sandals along with his "Muse" and "Downtown" bags were great successes - critics described some of his collections as "lacking color and modernity." Meanwhile, Hedi Slimane, former designer at Dior Homme, is rumored to return to fashion and replace Pilati at YSL. Pilati's next move is still to be determined, but for now, check out his second to last Spring collection for Yves Saint Laurent in the slideshow.

Spring was seen in a darker light for Stefano Pilati's collection for Yves Saint Laurent. Instead of the bright colors and prints favored on many runways this season, Pilati showcased a gorgeous jewel-toned collection highlighting blue, purple, and forest green hues with a sprinkling of mint green to lighten up the mood. Showing what he does best, the designer created sharp tailored jacquard trousers and structured coats. The feminine touch in the way of fit-and-flare skirts, ruffle detailed blouses, printed coats, and sexy halter tops. For eveningwear, Pilati created sultry sheer black gowns, cut deep in the front and flecked with gold shimmer. The footwear selection was covetable, showing gold-plated suede loafers dipped in beautiful jewel tones, lace-up flats, cap-toe pumps, and platform loafers. Shoes that are sure to hit the must-haves list of every stylista.

Christian Louboutin Loses Red-Sole Case Against Yves Saint Laurent

Christian Louboutin is known for its decadent red-sole footwear, but does that mean other shoe brands can't use the same colored sole? That's what the brand is saying, who's been busy in court seeking trademark protection on its red soles, which was originally granted in 2008. While the trademark ruling is still to be determined, a verdict just came in today denying Christian Louboutin his requested for a preliminary injunction that would have barred Yves Saint Laurent from selling red-soled shoes from its 2011 cruise collection.

"Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection, even if it has gained enough public recognition in the market to have acquired secondary meaning," wrote Judge Victor Marrero in his ruling.
