Fab Flash: Writers' Strike Could Mean No Awards Red Carpet(!)

We already have less Gossip Girl episodes to look forward to than we should. Now, as we near the beginning of next year and awards season, the deadlocked writers' strike may be putting even more kinks in the works: red-carpet fashion might just be a thing of the past.

Writers are already set to picket the Golden Globes on Jan. 13, and the Oscars are soon after on Feb. 24. Hollywood insiders are predicting that this could be a red carpet-less awards season, because the writers expect actors to refuse to cross the picket lines.

Imagine a world without Reese's yellow Nina Ricci dress or Gwyneth's pink Ralph Lauren gown - what a sad, sad world indeed.

The divas of country were out last night at the Academy of Country Music Awards. Carrie, Taylor, and Miley mixed up their styles throughout the evening, while beauties Marisa Miller and Nicole Kidman (in back-plunging L'Wren Scott) shined all night long. Red is stunning on the red carpet, but so is black. The Oscars is a serious black-tie affair, after all. There are a million things that can be done with an LBD, but the right black gown on the right woman doesn't require many bells and whistles. Black is chic, classic, and dramatic - excellent characteristics for the red carpet. Beyonce isn't one of my usual red carpet picks, but no one can deny she looked fantastic in this Atelier Versace black-velvet gown at the 2005 Oscars. Behold: film noir . . . Source

2008 Oscars Fashion Preview: Expect Color, Ruffles and Beautiful Beading!

Witnessing the Oscars red carpet is one of my favorite fashion moments all year. We'll have to wait until Sunday to see who wears what, but until then, I've got a sneak peek to hold you over. Oscar fashion coordinator Patty Fox put together an Academy Awards fashion preview, highlighting the vivid colors and sparkling jewels that are expected to rule the red carpet this year.

Partnering with glam Oscar-worthy designers like Giorgio Armani, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, and Marchesa, Fox showcased gowns that spoke to the style of past Academy Awards winners: for Charlize Theron, a ruched tangerine Pamella Roland number, for Julia Roberts, a one-shouldered red chiffon Valentino gown, and for Renee Zellweger, a gold strapless Angel Sanchez dress.

Meanwhile, earlier this week I put together my own Oscar red carpet wish list - I'm biased, but I think mine's better!

Which of Penelope's Oscar Dresses Was the Most Fab?

Whether it was custom Chanel couture for the red carpet or an elegant one-shouldered cocktail dress for the Miramax/Audi Academy Awards private after party, Penelope stuck with sophisticated black for her Oscars night garb. This one's a toughie: The feathered frock and classic sheath are both pretty Fab. Which one prevails?!

The way I see it, this is the chance for stars to shine, so I've got no love for those who dim in the spotlight. Whether it be a bold color, a shocking silhouette, or breathtaking bling, all these ladies have stepped up to the Oscars plate. In no particular order - although Emily Blunt stole my heart in Calvin Klein at the Oscars last year - I present to you my best-dressed list of Oscars past . . . Ready for the Oscars? Fab Flash: Select Oscar Dresses Already Being Reproduced

We all love a Look for Less, but when the Oscar red carpet has finished, the knockoff manufacturers kick into high gear. Which celebrities' dresses made the cut? Cachet, a New York-based eveningwear company, plans on replicating Heidi Klum's John Galliano, Anne Hathaway's Marchesa, Katherine Heigl's Escada, and Jessica Alba's eggplant-colored Marchesa, to be in stores next September.

Meanwhile, Faviana New York has its eyes set on reproducing Katherine Heigl's Escada for $328 (above), Miley Cyrus' $10,550 Valentino for $248, Amy Adam's Proenza Schouler for $258, and Jessica Alba's $6,000+ Marchesa for $300, to be available in the next 4-5 weeks. Would you ever buy one of these Oscar-inspired dresses?

Marion Cotillard's Oscar Dress, From Runway to Red Carpet

Just like with Ellen Pompeo and her SAG Awards gown, for Marion Cotillard and her Oscars gown, it was love at first sight. "I've worked with him several times," she said of Jean Paul Gaultier, who designed her fishtailed frock. "When I saw this dress from his last collection, I knew I wanted to wear it."

Her white and silver mermaid gown was based on a similar dress from Jean Paul Gaultier's Spring 2008 couture collection - except that one was black and gold. So I'm asking you to step back, and imagine: Do you like Marion's dress as she wore it, or do you wish she would have worn the black and gold runway version? I'm having trouble deciding which I would have preferred . . .

Amy Adams and Isla Fisher = Oscar Twinkies?!

For a minute, I felt like I was having Oscars deja vu when Amy Adams appeared on the red carpet Sunday night. I experienced a flash back to Isla Fisher and the emerald satin Monique Lhuillier gown she wore to the Oscars last year. The deep green color, bustier bodice, and fit-and-flare shape are all very similar - especially noticeable since both red heads wore loose waves. Do you see the resemblance too, or am I just Oscar crazy?
