Used in fashion as a "look" of a female resembling a male. Popularized by actress Diane Keaton in the 1970's movie Annie Hall, and copied as fashion apparel.
Kate Bosworth and Amanda Peet recently went androgynous at New York Fashion Week.

American Apparel has faced no shortage of controversy, and it looks like they're not turning over a new leaf just yet.
The clothing company has been sued for $10 million by director Woody Allen, who claims AA used his image on billboards and the Internet without his consent. The ads, which went up in May 2007, depict Allen as a rabbi, a shot which the lawsuit alleges American Apparel ripped off from Allen's 1977 movie Annie Hall.

Who here is a Diane Keaton fan? And who admired her famous androgynous look from Annie Hall? There is something very sexy about when a woman wears a man's clothes; such designers as Commes de Garcons and Giorgio Armani have built menswear-inspired womenswear empires based on this fact.

New York-based label Rag & Bone made a name for itself with premium denim and an edgy take on classically tailored menswear. But it was the newer womenswear line that took center stage at the label's New York Fashion Week show on Friday afternoon, which drew a celebrity crowd that included Cameron Diaz, Julianne Moore, and Jimmy Fallon.
