The latest in the Anya Hindmarch "I'm not a Plastic Bag" saga: the tote has been banned in China after several women were trampled yesterday in Hong Kong trying get ahold of the canvas tote.
Fakes are already beginning to proliferate; one Beijing-based dealer told The Times of London he expects to have almost 1,000 bags of the same size, weight and fabric as the real Anya Hindmarch tote by the weekend. Oh the craziness this bag has caused!

I've been seeing this Anya Hindmarch "I'm not a Plastic Bag", approx $6.75, everywhere. Apparently it is all the rage. It it quite cheeky and with all the talk about banning plastic shopping bags it is fashionably PC.

The canvas tote continues to evolve. It took off with Anya Hindmarch's I'm Not a Plastic Bag — remember the frenzy? — and has since taken all sorts of designs and personalities.

2007 was a year in which Dolce & Gabbana made $275 safety glasses, rings came with living plants, Crocs went ballet, tops had huge holes in the front, and Anya Hindmarch caused an "I'm not a plastic bag" frenzy. Whew — what a year! Looking back, do you still feel the same way you used to?

Now that the Anya Hindmarch "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" craze has died down, there's yet another eco-chic bag to take its place. Method's Plastic Bag Rehab is perfect for stashing your groceries or laundry. It's a bit brighter than Anya's but has a similar Boogie Nights-esque writing font.

Ever since they decided to ban plastic shopping bags here in San Francisco a few months ago, fashionable alternatives have really been on my mind. We've talked about the Anya Hindmarch "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" Tote, and the Marc by Marc canvas tote (got it!), but this new option may be my favorite yet.
The Baggu ("bag" in Japanese), $8, is made out of super strong ripstop material - it holds 25 lbs of groceries, which is equal to the amount 2 to 3 plastic grocery bags can carry!

Over the Anya Hindmarch "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" Tote, but not over the PC notion of using a canvas tote to carry groceries? The "Jacobs by Marc Jacobs for Marc by Marc Jacobs" canvas tote is a very stylish and viable option at only $12! Plus, it has a sense of irony: Marc pokes fun at himself and all the other designers who plaster their names all over everything.
