Who Wore It Better? Sequined Balenciaga Babydoll Dress

Remember that gorgeous sequined Balenciaga babydoll dress Sienna Miller wore to the premiere of Factory Girl? Well, during my usual morning visit to PopSugar today, I caught Katie Holmes wearing the same dress seven months later! This is a tough call because both ladies are wearing black opaque tights and patent pumps - almost identical. I approve of both. Who gets your vote?

Louis Vuitton Spring 2012

Was this Marc Jacobs's last collection for Louis Vuitton? If so, it was a gorgeous outing, as innocent and light as last season was naughty and rich. Models came off a white carousel, walking in sweet outfits as if every day were just another walk in the park. Oversized, embroidered eyelet took center stage, on dresses, adorning shirt collars, underneath layers of sheer organza on a skirt. Even the introduction of leather biker jackets couldn't cut the sugar, done as they were in canary yellow or baby blue, and paired with eyelet blouses and skirts. It was an idyllic setting, ultra feminine and ladylike, with nary a trace of Fall's fetishist theme. The icing on the cake? Kate Moss closing in a white babydoll dress that was covered in wispy feathers, looking innocent as can be.

Trends: retro, ladylike, eyelet, sheer layers, biker jackets
Colors:pale pink, sky blue, mint green, canary yellow, navy blue.

Alexander McQueen Spring 2012

Otherworldly is the best way to describe Sarah Burton's Spring 2012 collection for Alexander McQueen. She referenced the Greek goddess Gaia, who in mythology gave birth to the gods of sea. The oceanic theme arose via undulating ruffles and pearl and coral-crusted embellishments that looked like barnacles. But first, the impeccable tailoring; first with a series of skirt suits, belted high and elegantly on the waist, done in powerful metallic gold and blush tones. Some of the jackets were cut to reveal delicate lace bralettes underneath. A string of babydoll dresses were floaty and full, designed to mimic the movements of a jellyfish, thanks to a plethora of ruffles. For the finale, a string of awe-inspiring gowns, one that spoke to the darkness of McQueen with black, spidery-cut leather. Models wore facemasks cut of lace, but some had beading made to look as if coral were spreading over their faces. It was transformative, and on a larger scale, a transformative moment for Sarah Burton, who has shown that she can lead the Alexander McQueen house forward in a lighter, but still breathtakingly complex direction.

Trends: aquatic theme, pearls, feathers, embellishment, wide belts, asymmetric hems.
Colors: gold, blush, coral, white, cream, black.
Key Piece: babydoll dresses with lace and ruffles were surprisingly light, while the gowns were just incredible. For "everyday" we love the tailored jackets that opened the show.
Accessories: platform gladiator sandals that climbed up models's legs.
Who Would Wear It: The gowns are for the most fashion-forward red carpet goers. But we can see some of the skirt suits working on Sarah Jessica Parker.

L.A.M.B. Spring 2012 Presentation

First, there was Hailee Steinfeld looking fresh and crisp in a Tommy Hilfiger short-sleeve silk crepe pleated dress; then Natalie Portman showed up to a Vanity Fair party in a babydoll dress from H&M's new Conscious Collection with gorgeous floral lace applique. With Spring shopping season about to commence, we're looking for a perfect hybrid of the two: white, a little bit fitted but still a little flowy, crisp, but with feminine details. After combing the market, we came up with not one but 12 perfect dresses. Our favorite is the Temperley dress with ornate lace. Happy shopping!
