Freaky or Fabulous? Meet Martin Margiela, Balloon Artiste

I am so thankful Martin Margiela is around. While Couture is blooming in Paris this week, some designers are showing their noncouture, but equally stunning, collections.

What you see here is from the house of Maison Martin Margiela. The Belgian designer continues to toot his own horn, and this collection was made of so-called "artisanal" pieces. Never one to shy away from unconventional materials, how do you feel about wearing a jacket made of balloons? Of all the party balloons concoctions I've witnessed - including some ill hats - I've never seen one of these. This puts those seasoned craftsmen to shame. Margiela used 30 balloons, some inflated, all twisted together. I think it's darn Fab. Side note: Come November, the designer will launch a line of fine jewelry in collaboration with Italy's Damiani. Thank goodness for Forever 21, right? I can always look to my favorite fashion-on-the-cheap brand for affordable lookalikes - this Forever 21 Tropez Faux Leather Hobo ($32) is pretty spitting image of the Marni bag, for only a fraction of the price. Now I can love it and live it . . .

Fab's 10 Fall Essentials: The Cool Bag

How about investing in one cool bag this season instead of buying three or four mediocre ones? I'm thinking about taking the plunge with this Silver Marni Balloon Bag ($1,960) that Reese has in brown and black. In the words of Rachel Zoe, "I die." I gave this decadent piece a test run in a store and fell in lust. It's ultra-light and sleek. The shape is '20s fabulous and I adore the utilitarian strap. Does it get any better?

Many of you liked the yellow patent bag Cameron carried at the airport recently, so we did some digging and surprise, we found it! Meet Marni's Balloon Handbag, $1,620. It's big, it's yellow and like Cameron figured, it's perfect for travel. If yellow's not your color, you can get it in red, beige, blue or purple (yes, please!).

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen Launch Olsenboye For JCPenney

On to the next. The rumors are true: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are launching a juniors line for JCPenney. Olsenboye makes total sense: the sisters began their retailer endeavors in the junior market - it's not to be forgotten.

The line will debut in 600 stores in February, but an innovative marketing campaign will kick off today for three days via an Olsenboye “treat truck” cruising around NYC selling clothes and giving out cupcakes, balloons and pins. The Olsen’s will be making a surprise appearance on one of the three days. As well, empty racks in 50 high-profile stores will be covered in Olsenboye samplings. Come Nov. 6, Olsenboye will be sold on jcp.com and in those 50 stores, including the Manhattan flagship, for a limited time. Updates and a teaser video can be viewed on Olsenboye.com.

The retail prices will range $20 to $50 for casual sportswear and accessories that includes denim, bottoms, tops, dresses, skirts, shorts, jackets, handbags and shoes. Super cool: it will dabble in travel-inspired mini collections, each reflecting the looks and trends of different cities.

What does Ashley say about the news: “Mary-Kate and I watch current trends and see our partnership with JCPenney as an opportunity to add something unique to the marketplace, especially in the current retail climate. Olsenboye is an extension of the Dualstar brand and we feel this collaboration complements and strengthens our business portfolio, delivering trend-based fashion at affordable prices.”

The Look For Less: Marni Balloon Bag

The newest Marni bag is delicious, but this Marni Balloon Bag ($1,360) has been tempting me for months. I gaze at it longingly at least once a day. I can't refuse the shiny leather, functional strap, and rich brown and black . . . but my wallet makes me refuse the price. Tear(s).

It's no Marni, but this Ann Taylor Embossed Croco Handbag ($49) is as close as I'm going to get without spending a fortune. It has the same oval handles, brown color, and balloon shape. I don't love the stud detail, but for that price, I can't complain.

Amongst the bevy of young British sensations that have burst onto the scene, Lily Allen is one of my faves. I like her music the best, and at the end of the day that's what should matter, right? It just so happens she also has a gamine quality and girlie style to sing along with. This vid takes us away to Lily's dreamspace where she sings the truth about fame and fortune while touring her gingerbread mansion. Her little honky tonk pastel trailer was pretty cute, but her mansion filled with handsome butlers, a Fab boudoir, and rooms full of presies - all greeted by dancing balloons - is indeed a dream come true.

Cheap & Chic: Technicolor

There's a way to liven up the red carpet, then there's a way to blow it up. Michelle Monaghan blew through the premiere of Up in LA. Her technicolor Peter Som dress and cotton candy pink Casadei heels were perfect for this lighthearted event and look especially sweet against the balloon backdrop. But no need to walk a red carpet to get Michelle's sassy look. Just remember to limit your technicolor to one item - otherwise you'll end up looking more raver, less glamour girl.
