On Our Radar: Ella Moss Black Label

Celeb-favorite brand Ella Moss is known for its flowy, feminine and easy-going dresses worn by a slew of stars like Gwyneth Paltrow, Cameron Diaz, Kirsten Dunst and Liv Tyler. The designer behind the brand, Pamella Protzel, has expanded her repertoire with her new Black Label line of silk dresses. The end result is a more fancy, though still unfussy, look. Eluxury and Shopbop carry the goods.

I really like this Sofia Silk Trapeze Dress, $240, because it's easy, breezy, and modern. The rounded band collar and bubble bottom make this LBD stand out from all the rest. It would look so adorable with some white accessories!

The Look For Less: Paige Denim Black Label Skinny Leather Pants

It takes a while to warm up to leather pants because of their motorcycle-biker connotation, but surprisingly, a lot of you would wear them. My philosophy is less biker, more rocker, with a feminine twist. I have a pair of liquid leggings, but pants are cool because you can wear them with more cropped tops. These Paige Denim Black Label Skinny Leather Pants ($398) would be heavenly with an airy ivory chiffon blouse and a loose cardigan. But since I don't need real leather, I found a faux pair that's equally chic and not as pricey.

Alexander McQueen Samsonite Black Label: Love It or Hate It?

Now I know Christina Ricci has partnered with Samsonite, but something tells me even her gothic roots as Wednesday and in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow won't churn out a luggage collection quite like this. Alexander McQueen's collection for Samsonite Black Label is, er, interesting. At the launch party the designer admitted: "Unfortunately, I'm quite sick at the moment." Wait - was he physically sick or mentally sick? I think physically, but one would wonder about the mental bit too after viewing this luggage collection that resembles the boney spine of many a controversial model. I like the other pieces in the collection; the pristine white contours create a ghostly aesthetic that is McQueen no doubt. But that white spiny one just gives me the jeepers creepers - and I like scary movies! What do you all think?

Online Sale Alert! Deals on Diesel Black Gold

The Diesel site doesn't announce it, but if you look hard enough (it's actually not that hard), you will find some serious deals on the brand's premiere Black Gold label. Cool denim and off-kilter separates are abundant. I stumbled across this Diesel Bester Denim Blazer ($150, originally $500) - and what a helluva price reduction. Only thing is, sizes are limited, but if you're an XXS, XS, or L, you're in luck. A denim blazer is a sneaky alternative to the black ones we've been inundated with this year. If I learned one thing from Ralph Lauren's American Spring collection it's to take denim-mixing risks. At that price, it's worth the risk!

The Look For Less: Kain Label Crop Top

Ever since Rihanna wore that sheer black top over a striped bikini top, I've been craving the same peek-a-boo effect. It's demure but shows your naughty side, too. So I set out on a serious hunt for a just-sheer-enough tee and found this Kain Label Sheer Crop Top ($84). I really like the boxy cut and how it's scooped in the front. But further into my hunt, I spotted a less expensive version. Don't you love it when that happens?

Look at what we have here: a Silence & Noise Cropped Dolman Tee ($32) that's practically the twin sister of the Kain version. It also comes in four other colors. It has the same oversize boxy cut and scoop neckline, and it's just sheer enough to be sassy. If you don't seek the overly boxy look, I recommend going a size down.

Swimming With Shoshanna

How many swimsuits do you own?

I own way too many swimsuits to count!!! All Shoshanna, of course!!!

What are the key swim trends to look for this Summer?

Look for bright pop colors like neon pink, orange, and green. Tribal prints are popular as well as ditsy floral prints, big bohemian florals, and graphic black and white.

How do you prevent swimsuit wedgies?

Prevent wedgies by wearing the right size. Not too big and not too small. Should be snug, but not tight.

What advice do you have for a girl who isn’t comfortable with her beach body?

A bathing suit is a bathing suit, it’s never going to cover that much! You can do lots of things to cover up area’s you are insecure about. Throw on an Elizabeth and James button down, Anlo jean shorts, or a Mexican embroidered dress. If you are insecure about your bottom, thrown on a cute skirt. If you want to cover up your arms, a 3/4 sleeve tunic will do just the trick. Also, accessorize your outfit with some beachy jewelry, like gold necklaces or bangles to look super chic.

How do you find a swimsuit that flatters your shape?

Big Busted: Look for halters which offer the most support. Also look for boning and underwire which will act like a bra and securely hold you in place. Curvy: Look for one pieces with ruching to slim your middle. When shopping for bikini's stick to bottoms with tie strings so they are easily adjustable. Flat Chested: Strings are most flattering. If you want to enhance your chest, look for ruffles or ruching which will create the illusion of a bigger chest.

Do you think it’s worth buying an expensive bathing suit (yours) versus a cheap one (H&M)? Does it make a difference?

There are two factors to think about: quality and fit/sizing issues. H&M is very generic and sold as sets. Our collection offers 13 different sizes and are sold as separates so we give customers more options. Shoshanna bathing suits are also constructed with the highest quality materials. We use a special boning and underwire that provides amazing support.

What are some general tips for purchasing swimwear?

Cotton bathing suits are more for show. They will take a long time to dry compared to a polyester/Spandex blend. Accept that sizes will vary, even from the same label.

Cynthia Steffe Makes Sophisticated Changes

Ever since designer Cynthia Steffe left her namesake brand in December 2006, the label has been going through an identity crisis. But today, after a full year on the job, creative director and executive vice president of design Shaun Kearney has taken the brand in a sophisticated direction. "The contemporary market as a whole is much more sophisticated and edgy than it once was," said Kearney. "For this collection we worked to play with the hard and soft elements."

What's more, there are plans to expand Cynthia Steffe globally and to branch out into new product categories. Kearney has also changed the label's logo - once orange and white - to black with the Cynthia Steffe logo printed in metallic gold. There have also been early conversations about an e-commerce site, as well as freestanding stores. Exciting changes, can't wait!

Behind the Seams: Genevieve Jones and La Perla Collections Preview

Handbags, jewels, and lingerie mingled this week when social-cum-handbag/jewelry designer Genevieve Jones and La Perla showed off their latest collections at the La Perla Black Label boutique in NYC. The likes of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and Elise Overland came out to ogle Genevieve's bling and La Perla's lacy underthings. Sounds like a win-win. Designer Zac Posen even showed up and nabbed a peck from the lady of the night, who, may I say, was dressed to impress.
