Now is prime time for an ode to this '80s power chick flick: shoulder pads are in. We all have the office basics for this, but insert the largest shoulder pads you can find into your blazer. Tease your curls, wear your pearls, and slather on the red lipstick. Bonus funny points for wearing white sneakers instead of sexy black pumps. "I have a head for business and a body for sin."

The Diesel site doesn't announce it, but if you look hard enough (it's actually not that hard), you will find some serious deals on the brand's premiere Black Gold label. Cool denim and off-kilter separates are abundant. I stumbled across this Diesel Bester Denim Blazer ($150, originally $500) - and what a helluva price reduction. Only thing is, sizes are limited, but if you're an XXS, XS, or L, you're in luck. A denim blazer is a sneaky alternative to the black ones we've been inundated with this year. If I learned one thing from Ralph Lauren's American Spring collection it's to take denim-mixing risks. At that price, it's worth the risk!

FABTV: Janet Jackson "What Have You Done For Me Lately"

Janet just wanted a little shoulder bopping and head snapping time with her man. I totally get that. There are lots of songs about romance, but what about when your other half isn't doing much for you, lately? Attitude is one thing Janet had; she also had really big shoulder pads, but let's focus. Though I've never experienced a girls against boys dance-off in a diner, if it's going to be like this, I certainly want to. This song has a killer beat and a steadfast groove. Janet was also a master of group choreographed numbers, like this one. Please also note her gold lamé shirt, black blazer, and unmistakable smile (those chubby cheeks!).

Celebrity Style: Charlize Theron

Charlize made an appearance at the AFI Dallas Film Festival mixing up a menswear-inspired ivory blazer with feminine touches. The crispness of the blazer is all she needs to give her skinny jeans and satin tank a polished feel, and the gold embellishments she chose, most notably the gorgeous Van Cleef & Arpel's earrings, up the glam factor. What I love most about this is that this would translate seamlessly into a daytime look with a more casual tee and some reaccessorizing. Leave it to Charlize to always look perfectly glamorous in the simplest gear.

The too-cute cast turned up at the Paley Festival and here is Serena van der Woodsen herself looking power babe in a Smythe blazer and straight jeans. The fact that she wears it open, with a cotton tank, makes it more cas(ual) - I supplied a patent red clutch to liven things up even more for Ms. Lively.
