New York Fashion Week, Spring 2008: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Leave it to Marc to design a collection that stands out from the gaggle of ultra-feminine New York Fashion Week pieces. You'll find no flowy and frilly here. What you will find are tailored pant suits, A-line dresses, military coats, pleats, lace, boxy blazers, high-waisted trousers, plaid and hats...lots and lots of hats.

But wait! Doesn't this all remind you of his Le Smoking Fall Marc Jacobs collection? The primary colors, military references and plethora of hats? I say yay, for those of us who loved it (present!) but could never afford it. Now, there's hope.

Commencing, there were lots of brights, mostly in the form of bold Marc red. Though it's hard to categorize the Marc by Marc Jacobs Spring girl, one thing is for certain: she's a world-traveler, ready with suitcase and class!

Fall Glimpse: Bold & Bright

Banish cold weather blahs forever with the upcoming bold & bright Fall offerings. Seriously, if I had these rich and electric colors in my wardrobe come January I think the snow would instantly melt wherever I went - take this fabulous Versace fruit punch coat, for example. Say hello to scarlet, vermilion, fuchsia, peacock, eggplant and grape - your new BFFs. Paired with noir and greys, get ready to shock the system.

Trend Alert: Big, Bold Rings

Diamonds may be a girl's best friend, but semi-precious stones are a great companion when it comes to big, bold rings. Made from topaz and citrine on the high end and glass and cubic zirconia on the low end, enormous statement rings are everywhere this Fall. I know bold shoulders are all the rage, but would you wear these Gemma Degara Chain Shoulder Pads ($95) to enhance them? It's definitely an interesting concept - part cape, part shoulder pads, part necklace. I would perhaps give it a whirl, but not in that exact way! You?

Chloë Sevigny has been a style risk taker from day one. The proof is in the pictures. In honor of her birthday today - congrats, girl! - let's take a trip down red-carpet lane to admire this fearless, fashion-forward woman. Since '98, Chloë's style has not changed that drastically. She has always favored off-kilter, yet totally sexy pieces. Black is a staple, but she doesn't turn her back on bold colors. Yellow, fuchsia, orange, purple - they're all part of her closet. She never shies away from sheer and sliced, but also rocks conservative ensembles like second skin. And, get this, she wore an oversized bow headband back when whimsical wasn't the word. Lastly, she's got some killer legs. A true fashion chameleon, we heart you, Chloë.

2010 Spring: Calvin Klein, CK Jeans, and CK Underwear

Clean. Precise. Minimal. Three terms Calvin Klein wants you to use when describing its Spring '10 collection. Staying true to the house's less-is-more aesthetic, Francisco Costa has delivered a line of basics with a sexy utilitarian nature. You'll find organic fabrics and most colors of the rainbow: sand, white, and khaki as staples, canary, melon, poppy, fuchsia, turquoise, and cobalt as accents. Drawstring cargos, denim vests, fitted blazers, parkas, denim judo pants, and shirt dresses are all solid. But one print piece stands out as the cool black sheep: a black-and-white, tie-dye dress that's feminine and bold.

Swimsuits are also part of the Spring family - a two-piece in warm gray and a one piece in solid gray or gray Bengal print. The handbags are equally minimal; hobos, totes, and rounded clutches are smooth and unstructured, with gold and silver hardware. Wooden-stacked heels and flat sandals are au naturel and sporty.
