You won't be able to stay out of the alley with these adorable treats! Cupcakes and cake may be traditional, but today it's all about the cake pop. There's something about the sweetness of chocolate, cake, and icing on a stick that appeals to partygoers. For my son's 5th birthday, I combined his current fascination with Spider-Man with bowling to create pops. I spread the labor-intensive process out over several days (there are only so many hours for baking in a working mama's day!) to create Spidey-colored bowling balls and pins. The results, according to the kids and parents in attendance, were well worth the time spent perfecting them. Here's how I made the bite-sized treats.

This adorable Jeu de Quilles (Bowling) Set ($575), designed to look like toy soldiers, is from 1940s France. With only nine pins left, it's probably a bit difficult to play a genuine bowling game. So, I'd like you to think outside of the alley and tell me how you'd use the set in your home as décor or a furnishing. If you're handy or know a good carpenter, you could certainly transform them into a playful and interesting furniture piece, by perhaps using the pins as legs for a table or arms for a shelf. Or, you might even hang them from the ceiling as a chandelier. I'd love to use them as small fence posts, or pedestals for outdoor candles. This time of year it seems there's a never-ending stream of cocktail parties to attend. I wouldn't be Fab if I didn't love dressing up, but sometimes it's nice to switch it up a little.

I've been invited to a holiday-bowling party, and since I'm not the best at bowling, I'm focusing on looking cute.
