Trend Alert: Metallica Jackets

I have a ton of Winter coats in my closet, but I've yet to own a metallica jacket. I admit, I was shy of the shiny, but seeing Gwyneth Paltrow in her silver Alice + Olivia coat and Christian Louboutin caged booties at the Valentino event in NYC swayed me otherwise. These toppers inject major wattage to dark winterwear, and are perfect for upcoming holiday soirees. If the longer length is too much bling for your taste, try out shorter jackets or tailored blazers. Let's not forget to pair these shimmery jackets with tough shoes - a la Gwyneth - to temper the glossy glamour.

Trend Alert: Twinkle Toes

Shoes have gotten really aggressive. Gladiator sandals, caged sandals, zippered shoes, Victoria Beckham's invisible dominatrix heels. Cool your jets! It was refreshing to see Lucy Liu, alongside Manolo Blahnik, in a pair of delectable twinkle toes. Just because every enviable Gwyn and Charlize is wearing tough-as-nails footwear doesn't mean you have to. An elegant cocoon-shaped Giambattista Valli dress is the perfect topper for the toe that glitters, but I say some rolled up jeans will do, too.

Fantastical Spring Footwear

Shoes have reached an extreme - I love it. You might be wondering, "I thought you were a flat girl, though, Fab." I am, I am. But I also escape reality via fantastical footwear. I have nowhere to wear these gutsy concoctions, or the means to buy them, but if I did, I would indulge (and suffer). Platforms and unstable heels caused a couple crashes down the catwalks, though, so a flat backlash might be on the horizon. In the meantime, feast your eyes on Pilati's cold caged sandal for YSL and more fantasies . . .

Behind the Seams: 2008 Macy's Passport Fashion Show

While this year's Macy's Passport Fashion Show didn't bring out Dita von Teese like it did last year, it did again showcase some fabulous fashions, talented dancers, and live music. Designer Tommy Hilfiger, drummer Adrian Young from No Doubt, and vastly talented male dancers were all present to help to raise funds and awareness for over 10 HIV/AIDS organizations. The night was broken up into sections: Iconic America with Tommy Hilfiger's designs; Dark Shadows with all-black clothes; Figment of Your Imagination with hip-hop-inspired gear; Brighton Rocks with punky cool Ben Sherman duds; Calvin Klein; Levi's; INC; and Ed Hardy. My favorites were Iconic America and Dark Shadows.

One of the models in the Dark Shadows section even wore my caged Jeffrey Campbell shoes! While the women's fashions were fun to look at, and made me want to go out and shop, what really made my heart skip a beat or two were the male dancers and the male models who strutted the catwalk in their undies. Blush.

The Look For Less: Stuart Weitzman Patent Pump Sandals

Practicality is great and all, but every now and then I crave a good, fierce shoe to satiate my hunger for sexy-as-hell footwear. This Stuart Weitzman Patent Pump Sandal ($298) is dark and cage-like; just the thing I need when I'm trying to get my way! But why pay that much when there's an equally hot and less expensive version out there?

Thanks to this Nine West Sulliban Sandal ($89), I don't have to spend a fortune to get my way. It's gladiator-inspired and has a similar cage-like quality as the Stuart Weitzman version. And actually, it's slightly more everyday-wearable so you'll get more bang for your buck.

Nicole Richie in Stripes at Fashion Week: Love It or Hate It?

It's great to see glowing mommy Nicole Richie participating in the New York Fashion Week festivities. She was spotted at DKNY's show wearing a blue and black striped tank by the designer, which she paired with a voluminous skirt with tie-belt and suede caged shoes. Though Nicole usually likes to pile on the accessories, she opted for a more minimal style this time with just a thin gold bracelet. What do you think about her New York look?

Katie Holmes in Holmes & Yang: Love It or Hate It?

Interesting. What you see here is Katie Holmes in a navy leather bodice halter dress she wore to the Tropic Thunder premiere. But did you see who designed it? Holmes Yang. We've known Katie's style evolution is largely thanks to stylist Jeanne Yang, and the two are clearly taking their relationship to the next level.

What do you think? I have to say my eyes go to those caged shoes rather than the dress. Navy isn't my favorite on the red carpet, even though the leather banded bodice spices it up. Apparently there's no collection in the works, so we'll just have to keep an eye out for some more Holmes Yang modeled by you-know-who. Thoughts?
