Eva Mendes Shines in Chris Benz Paillettes: Love It or Hate It?

Paillette alert! Eva Mendes attended the Hollywood screening of The Bad Lieutenant wearing a Chris Benz multicolored, plunging paillette dress from his Spring '10 collection and Brian Atwood pumps. The dress is definitely eye-catching - different than what we're used to seeing her in. A few sparkles would do her good, but all-over paillettes are slightly overwhelming. And this coming from a gal who loves shine. What's your opinion?

Chris Benz Ostrich Feather Collar: Love It or Hate It?

When I think of ostrich feathers, I think major glamour. When I look at this Chris Benz Ostrich Feather Collar ($275) I see glamour, in the most over-the-top way. I personally wouldn't wear it, but it could work for someone who seeks the Old Hollywood touch. For me, the grenadine color isn't the most flattering and I don't like that the feathers are so close to the face. What's your opinion?

The latest designer to jump on the feathery friends trend is Chris Benz with this Muticolored Pencil Skirt ($795). I usually fancy fringe but it looks like Chris had too much on his mind with this one. Between the diamond jacquard print and fuzzy texture; I can't help but to feel dizzy. What do you think?

On Our Radar: Spring Sunglasses Galore

It seems anyone who's a designer is putting out sunglasses these days. Joining the list that already includes Banana Republic, Phillip Lim and Tiffany are Pucci, Balenciaga, Chris Benz, Karl Lagerfeld, Chaiken, and Jimmy Choo. Considering everyone wants to go incognito these days, it's no surprise that these designers also want a piece of the shady pie.

Pucci: This is the first time since the '70s that the label is bringing eyewear to its repertoire. The line features 19 styles in the famous Pucci colors like coral, blue, gold, purple, and black and white. It will be available this month at most major luxury retailers, will wholesale from $142 to $500.

Balenciaga: Partnering with Safilo, Balenciaga's plastic and metal styles reflect a futuristic theme. They wholesale from $156 to $196, and will land at Balenciaga boutiques this month.
Chris Benz: The young designer has teamed up with Moscot, a 93-year-old label, to design shades in colors such as peacock, orchid, and cerulean. The collection will become available on Moscot.com starting March and will retail for $250.
Karl Lagerfeld: Chanel's designer has partnered with Marchon to bring high-tech sensibility to the masses. The collection, retailing from $175 to $250, will be available at select department stores and specialty shops by April.
Chaiken: The label's partnership with Linda Farrow Vintage has produced eyewear fusing California cool and British vintage. Frames come in translucent green, brown, gold and antique gold. Look for them this Spring at small specialty stores and Harrods in London wholesaling for $100.
Jimmy Choo: Come February, get your eyes on Jimmy Choo shades in sophisticated styles inspired by vintage frames from founder Tamara Mellon's personal collection. They include a studded aviator (Charley), oversized frames in black, tortoise, gold and silver (Kat), and a square-shaped frame with Swarovski crystal studs (Rock). Wholesale prices range from $140 to $205.

Designer Spotlight: Chris Benz

Chris Benz may only be 24 years old, but he has been garnering a lot of attention since he debuted his first collection in February at New York Fashion Week.

He studied at Parsons School of Design in New York while simultaneously interning at Marc Jacobs for two years. Upon his graduation in 2004, he was awarded the CFDA Emerging Designer Award.

Afterward, he went to work at J. Crew for a time - and when he was ready to venture out on his own and try his hand at his own American sportswear line, his experience at both Marc Jacobs and J. Crew became readily apparent. I expect big things from this guy!

FabSugar Exclusive! Taylor Jacobson, A Lady Who Lunches . . . With an Edge

All good things must come to an end. And that includes Rachel Zoe's work relationship with her platinum-blond style associate, Taylor Jacobson. You either loved her or hated her - but you have to admit you loved her wardrobe. I couldn't shut up about her awesome jackets; Chanel, Dries van Noten, Balenciaga, sigh. You may recall I spoke with Rachel at the beginning of this last season of The Rachel Zoe Project and she shared that Taylor has a heart of gold. I'm sure Taylor's leaving Rachel Zoe was melancholy for all parties involved - the two have worked together since January 2005. I know I will miss drooling over her jackets and watching her and Brad's banter.

We caught up with Taylor this week, and though she didn't divulge details about her departure, she has a positive outlook on life - something we seldom see from the show's supposed villain. And, can I just add, Taylor gives Fab favorite Diane Kruger props for having stellar style - great minds . . . Listen up.

What should we expect to see from you in the next year?

I look forward to exploring styling on my own and the new opportunities and experiences it is going to bring.

Who are your go-to designers right now?

Chris Benz, Alexander Wang, and Prabal Gurung.

Whose style do you admire?

I think Diane Kruger has great style and even more impressive is that she does it herself.

Ladies who lunch with an edge.

Has being on TV changed your style at all?

No. I think I have always been true to my sense of style.

What was your last big splurge?

I’m trying to be recession savvy at the moment.

What are the most ridiculous trends right now?

I don’t think that anything is ridiculous, you can always make something work with the right styling.

I will never be caught dead in . . .

There is nothing I won’t try.

Most overrated designer? Most underrated?

I respect the art form of design, and I think they should all be respected for sharing their art with us.

Have you ever considered designing your own line of clothing or accessories?

At this point I’m entertaining all ideas. I am walking into this new chapter with an open mind.
