Color My World: Expectant Mamas Can Jump on the Colored Denim Trend

Somewhere over the rainbow expectant mamas are rejoicing! The colored denim trend is still going strong, and now moms-to-be can get in on it! Jeans are covering the entire spectrum this season and with brighter colors taking center stage. Even Rachel Zoe recently tweeted, "Don't be afraid to rock bright pants this season - they are way fun." If there's anyone to trust about seasonal trends, it's Rachel. When I came across this Alice & Olivia video for their Summer 2011 collection I had to share this for my post on summer brights and the colorblocking trend we're seeing that are so hot in fashion right now! What is colorblocking? You've probably heard of the trend that started in early spring that's punctuated by pops of bold color and highlighted by the mixing and matching of separates in all-over hues, in sometimes unexpected ways. Strong prints with geometric shapes in solid hues are big for fall and an all-over wash of striking color is very of-the-moment, for accessories too.

Look of the Day: Electric Blue

spharrell decided to see what all the hoopla was about with bright jeans and decided to give it a whirl. She kept the rest of her look simple and toned down to contrast with her electric blue jeans. She looks great and the slightly shimmery blazer is Fab.

Fab Flash: Pucci and Seven Do Colored Denim

Pucci is well-known for its psychedelic bright colors, so it's no surprise that when Pucci does denim, the vivid hues carry over. Together with Seven For All Mankind, Pucci is doing a limited edition straight-leg stretch jeans collection in yellow, orange, red, fuchsia, black - and more. They will retail at Pucci stores for $400 a pop.

Designer Spotlight: Dittos

It really is amazing how fashion recycles itself; Dittos are back! The brand known for curve-hugging cuts, a slightly flared leg, and U-turn stitching down the backside was huge in the 70s: the It jeans of the time, if you will.

Frankie B.'s designer Daniella Clarke has reintroduced the colorful high-rise bell-bottoms in all their bright-colored glory. They also come in blue denim washes and classic white, and are available for $159-$175 from Revolve Clothing, Intermix, and Shopbop.

Deriving inspiration from craftsmen - mechanics, cobblers, and (much more obviously) leathermen, Cynthia Rowley's own Fall craftsmanship honed in on these artists with a succinctly modern and much sportier interpretation. Save for denim on denim suiting or brilliant colored leather, there's not too much literal interpretation, but rather a cool collection of womanly, curve-conscious design married with menswear-inspired structure. We're treated to bold all-over prints washed over body-skimming sheaths, skinny pants, and even gloves. And while a tougher, boxier leather jacket lined in shearling might pinpoint Rowley's craftsmen influences, what takes shape is still definitively for the girls.

Trends: Colored leather, abstract prints, menswear.
Colors: Blue, black, maroon, orange, olive green, gray, white.
Key Piece: We love the printed pants, shearling-trimmed jacket, and deep navy leather pieces.

Challenge yourself - take a wardrobe staple and transform it into something totally new. As much as we adore a good shopping spree, it's also great to reinvent the styling wheel with pieces you already own and love. Let's venture to the back of our closets and see what we can whip up with a little help from our favorite accessories, sweaters, and color combos. For today's quick makeover revamp: press "refresh" on your denim dress code.

Layer your denim in ladylike ways. Pair it with a sweet angora crew-neck sweater, tuck it into a colorful pleated chiffon skirt, or wear it over a long flowy maxi dress.
Cinch your denim top at the waist. By adding a textured, embellished, or bold belt, you're not only injecting a cool accessory into the mix, you're also adding extra shape and dynamic to your silhouette. Let's put some stock into the saying, "if you got it, flaunt it."
Top your denim blouse off with chunky, flirty jewelry. Let it peek out from under the collar, drape it at alternating lengths, have fun with it. We think a pop of metallic sparkle is a playful way to dress up your denim without having to do much work at all.
