The Office, "Turf War": Best Lines of the Night

In this week's episode of The Office, Robert California is hung over and trying to put together the events of the evening - namely, that he closed the Syracuse branch of Dunder-Mifflin while blacked out. And of course, Andy is still being awkward and hanging out around the office, hoping that it's all just been a bad dream. I was happy to see Chris Bauer (Andy Bellefleur!) from True Blood make an appearance as the Syracuse branch manager who is upset that Scranton is stealing his clients.

We learn that Nellie has been having a hard time and actually has a heart; when Pam warms up to her, she's elated. Andy scores a big deal under the alias Big Red Paper Company to get his job back, but when Robert doesn't bite, he heads over to our old friend David Wallace, who seems interested. While I was happy to see Andy get his groove back, to be honest, the high point of the episode is the cold open, where Jim sets up a thigh curl contest between Gabe and Dwight. There are a few funny lines that held things together, so to see my favorites, just keep reading.

Gwen Stefani Treats Zuma and Kingston to a Picnic and a Park Playdate

Gwen Stefani stocked up at an LA Whole Foods Market Saturday for a park picnic with her sons. She rounded up boys Kingston and Zuma Rossdale for the alfresco meal and afterward, joined them on the swing set and jungle gym. Gwen broke from studio time with her band No Doubt for the adventure with Kingston and Zuma. Gwen has another big event happening soon. Gwen Stefani's heading to American Idol Wednesday to mentor contestants during '80s night with her bandmate Tony Kanal.

Gwen's husband Gavin Rossdale has likewise been focusing on his music following a brief Hollywood detour. He logged a few days on the LA set of Sofia Coppola's The Bling Ring last week, then headed to London. He's now in Mexico for a string of dates. He wrote on Twitter last night, "Mexico rules - finally decompressing - what an odyssey just getting here."

Transgender Beauty Queen Jenna Talackova Has Already Won

The Miss Universe Canada pageant wasn't feeling so congenial when it disqualified contestant Jenna Talackova, 23, on account of being transgender. But since the news broke last week, Jenna has received lots of positive support and her publicist released a statement today saying, "Jenna is overwhelmed, and deeply moved by the support she has received from around the globe."

When she was 19, Jenna, who was born a man and is seen on the right in the above photo, underwent gender reassignment surgery. Jenna says she knew she was meant to be a woman at the age of four, and started hormone therapy at age 14. The Miss Universe Canada pageant, which is owned by Donald Trump, said it disqualified her after she reached the finals in the Miss Vancouver competition because "she did not meet the requirements to compete despite having stated otherwise on her entry form." Prerequisites for competition include being a non-married Canadian citizen between the ages of 18 and 27. Although there are no specific rules about sex changes or cosmetic surgery, Miss Universe Canada says Jenna falsely stated that she had been born female on her application.

A Change.org petition asking the pageant to reinstate her already has over 30,000 signatures. It reads, "This is discriminatory, unjust, and quite frankly disgusting. She is a woman and deserves to be treated as any other woman would be. What kind of genitals she was or was not born with (and even what kind of genitals she has today) is completely irrelevant." Jenna says she hopes her experience will help prevent discrimination in the future, and it seems like she's well on her way to raising awareness. Would you sign the petition to get her reinstated?
