So we're still on the fence about crop tops? Melrose Place maven Ashlee Simpson can maybe help sway. She worked the trend in the most precious way. Her black Carol Malony bra top combined with high-waist Malanrino tuxedo shorts prevents too much tummy reveal. A chic black blazer and pretty heels keep everything tasteful. Black-deco Paolo Costagl earrings add a unique flair, while her little cinnamon-bun 'do is totally now. What do you think of Ashlee's cropped chic?

Hands down, Saved by the Bell was my favorite after-school show. High school couldn't look cooler with Kelly Kapowski, Lisa Turtle, and Jessie Spano. Of course, hotties Zach Morris (remember the huge cellphone he used to carry in his pocket?) and beefcake A.C. Slater provided hunky eye candy. And Screech, who could forget Screech? Loved him. I was only in grade school when this show debuted, so I could only dream of wearing Kelly's crop tops and Lisa's tight denim shorts - Jessie had legs for days in those washed out skinny jeans. The girls also fancied jean jackets, high-waist pants, and floral prints. Sigh, what I would do for a Freaky Friday experience with Kelly Kapowski circa '91 . . .

Trend Alert: Crop Tops

It was bound to happen. Crop tops are back in a badass way. If you're brave enough to show some skin, jump on the bandwagon. Don't fret, there's no need to go all-out '80s like Whitney Port. I suggest contrasting this short shirt with something more sophisticated like a pair of cropped black trousers or cute skirt. Even better, try layering it over a tank a la Sienna Miller. You down?

Celebrity Style: Lindsay Lohan

On Fridays, I like to shake Celebrity Style up. Why not? I realize Lindsay's look at the opening of the Apple Lounge may be hit or miss, but I consider tasteful risk taking a hit. Her emerald green 3.1 Phillip Lim crop top complements her strawberry blond hair (which looks really good, btw), and she knows a pair of Yves Saint Laurent platform pumps will give her jean-short-wearing legs the proper boost. She created a mix of rough and delicate jewelry, and I had to throw in this season's fringed Botkier bag for fun. What do you think; did Lindsay hit it or miss it?

Celebrity Style: Birthday Girl, Diane Kruger!

Join me in wishing Fab favorite Diane Kruger a happy birthday today. May her year be filled with lots of happiness, love, health . . . and fashion! The actress attended Longchamp's 60th anniversary celebration in an ensemble that only risk-taking girls like her can pull off. While other guests wore dresses, Diane showed up in high-waisted Grey Ant trousers, a gray crop top, and her favorite fedora. She tapped the look off with a salmon-colored Longchamp clutch and a thin white watch. As always, Fab-u-lous.

Designer Spotlight: Caroline Hedeya

This is a story about two girls, Caroline and Donna, who were destined to become stylish bosom buddies. Before they met at F.I.T., the two led parallel lives hoping to become fashion designers one day. Shortly after graduating, Caroline and Donna combined their quirky ideas to create Caroline Hedaya, a genesis of Caroline's graceful touches with Donna's architectural aesthetic. For Spring '10, the duo supply us with a girlie gambit of crisp skirts, cropped lace tops, modern vintage frocks, and polka-dot prints made in cream and navy hues. I don't know which I love more: the simple cinched camisole dress or the white cut-out wonder . . .

Here's a fun fact: At the age of 4, Caroline used to get phone calls from her teacher telling her mom that her outfits were too extravagant for school. Luckily, her mother refused to pacify her daughter's eccentric ways - too cute!

Trend Alert: Sharp Trousers

It's tempting to wear the usual jeans, leggings, or tights during cold months, but I double dare you to try something new. Just look to Rachel Bilson for inspiration. Instead of donning the expected denim and top combo, the cutie paired a crisp white shirt with a pair of sharp trousers.

Note: these pants are all about the perfect fit. Ankle or cropped lengths can be flattering, just don't forget to complement them with fresh footwear.

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Crop It, Slice It

Some of you mind overexposure on the runway and some of you don't. I can live with that. But if you start working on those abs now, by Springtime you can honor clothes that are cropped and sliced. I think crop tops can be adorable - when worn with a high waisted skirt or slouchy trousers - but you really have to have a smokin' bod. For those on the fence, a sliced or cut out top or dress is an alternative. If you want it all, Rodarte delivered a bandeau underneath a web of cut out knits.

The Look For Less: Kain Label Crop Top

Ever since Rihanna wore that sheer black top over a striped bikini top, I've been craving the same peek-a-boo effect. It's demure but shows your naughty side, too. So I set out on a serious hunt for a just-sheer-enough tee and found this Kain Label Sheer Crop Top ($84). I really like the boxy cut and how it's scooped in the front. But further into my hunt, I spotted a less expensive version. Don't you love it when that happens?
