The cut off short has gotten a mini makeover. Thanks to these Elizabeth and James Suspender Cut Off Shorts ($275), we can stand out from the rest of the cut off shorts-wearing population. But I must ask the burning question: Why spend this much when you can just clip some of your dad's suspenders on to some good old jean shorts? Could you pull it off? Or rather, would you want to?

It's clear by now: Blake Lively loves low-cut. At the NYC premiere of her latest flick, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, the actress wore one of the most plunging tops she's worn in a while. But, the long sleeves of the Marchesa jacket, as well as that big whimsical bow, keep her from being too risque. Black shorts show off her long stems and white pumps bring the look full circle. This is how Ashley Olsen does Summer. Itty-bitty denim cut-offs, retro footwear - clogs! - and a silky boyfriend shirt. We've moved past boyfriend jeans folks, it's on to that tousled, just-left-my-man's-place, vibe. If you ask me, boyfriend shirts are more flattering than boyfriend jeans anyway. With this borrowed-from-the-boys style you can leave a couple buttons undone, roll the cuffs, and sexily have your shirt blow in the wind.

I much prefer walking around Bloomie's than perusing its online site, but I always make an exception for a sale. Its sale section currently houses designer clothing and accessories from 25 to 40 percent off. I can roll with that. What I dig about these J Brand Cut-Off Shorts ($106, originally $141) is the slightly longer cut. True, itty bitty shorts are hotter, but these are good for those times when you're feeling subtle (or for more professional matters).

Look Book Love: Alexander Wang, Fall '09

Who donned the buzz cut first: Rihanna or model Tasha Tilberg? My vote's on Tasha, but while we sit and contemplate life's little wonders, let's dissect Alexander Wang's Fall '09 look book. First off, I'm loving how Tasha's new 'do complements her bird-like posing and crazy facial expressions. The stark backdrop pulls me into Wang's world of biker shorts, cutout dresses, oversize shirts, and blazers. The collection is overall very '80s, similar to his pre-Fall collection, but who says you have to wear it all at the same time? My advice is to take one piece from his collection and pair it with something ultra-modern. Keep clicking for more Wang's world, party on . . .

Shrug

A cropped, cardigan-like garment with short or long sleeves, typically knitted. It usually covers less of the body than a vest would, but it is more tailored than a shawl. Some shrugs are tied together just below the bustline, while some are cut off at the sides, making them nothing more than a pair of sleeves joined at the back. More recently, shrugs have taken a new direction, coming in all sorts of prints, drapes, and fabrics. They're the perfect Summer cover-up (and oh-so Buffy Summers).
