Maloles Doctor Bag: Love It or Hate It?

I forever love multiwoven styles. That's why this Maloles Doctor Bag ($328, originally $655) stood out to me. I like the embroidery and the blue turn lock, but I'm not loving the shape of the satchel. Something is just off here. What's your take?

Doctor Doctor! I Need a Handbag Fix!

Posh knows a sexy structured bag when she sees one - her favorite being the Hermes Kelly bag of course. But for the rest of us who are also in need of a handbag fix, the doctor's bag is the perfect anecdote. It's obvious how the bag's name was originally coined, but today these bags are updated with luxe finishes and fresh colors. This week's Life & Style features some modern options; call me old fashioned, I fancy this style in more traditional colors - like black and brown - just the thing to slake my addiction.

Style For Style: Back Friendly Handbags

I recently heard of a girl who complained she could no longer use her large chain-handle Chanel bag because her doctor said it's bad for her back. What a shame. You pay thousands of dollars for the purse of your dreams, and and it turns out to be a pain in the back. That's not OK. If you're in the same predicament, let's get you out of it!

You shouldn't carry around any more than 10 percent of your body weight. So if you're 130 pounds, your bag should be no heavier than 13 pounds. Stay away from handbags that are heavy even without anything inside.
Avoid long-strapped bags and chain handles. The former swings around as you walk, while the chain handle digs into your skin.
When wearing shoulder bags, make sure the longest your bag sits is around your waist or bellybutton area. Satchels with short handles are preferable.

Slouchy bags are OK, but structured bags are best for health purposes.
I am not advising you go out and buy a fanny pack, but you may want to reconsider really oversize bags. The smaller your bag, the less things you'll put in it, and the less heavy it'll be. There are stylish belt bags you can look into.
Plastic, satin, nylon, and canvas bags are perfect because they're not as heavy as leather. If you like leather, opt for a lighter leather like with Foley + Corinna's City Tote.
Heavy designer bags to stay away from if you want to avoid back pain: large chain-handle Chanel bags, Balenciaga's large motorcycle tote with heavy studs, Marc Jacobs's Stam bag, and any Zac Posen bag, to name a few.

When it comes to lovely, luscious handbags, it's hard to beat the leather masterpieces by Chloe. Lately, I've particularly been loving this Chloe Metallic Paddington Tote, available for a cool $2,080 here. Made from slightly plum-tinted dark leather, the maze of silver buckles and padlock detail make this doctor-style bag irresistible. Unless, of course, you can't afford to plunk down two grand for a piece of arm candy. It's the Urban Outfitters Doctor Bag With Buckle, available for a crazily low $68 here. This slouchy doctor-style tote is also adorned with big, bold buckles and features a similar double-handed design and muted brass hardware. As a must-have bag, it's a far cry from the Chloe, but as an affordable and stylish accessory, this bag is hard to beat.

Victoria Beckham hit LA's vintage haven Resurrection in a classy but, of course, sexy look. This is Posh we're talking about here. She isn't showing too much skin but manages to get the message across anyway with her extremely fitted pencil skirt and demure button down top. A patent doctors bag and her trademark oversized DVB sunglasses up the glam factor, which is offset by a chunky androgynous watch. Hot. Let's hope she bought the vintage Chanel bag she's caressing, I could never get tired of ogling that beauty.

Target has added yet another upscale label to its accessible design roster: the hip, chic Rafe New York line of shoes and bags, founded by Filipino wunderkind Rafe Totengco in 1995. For the past decade, Totengco has created edgy, urban bags in the $500 range, but with his Target line, he's bringing his distinctive style to the masses.
