Macy's Teams Up With Doo-Ri For Next Designer Collaboration

Timing couldn't be more perfect for Macy's next designer collaborator: Doo-Ri Chung. The designer who's known for her beautiful draped dresses and separates - Chung's gorgeous purple dress was worn by Michelle Obama at the state dinner welcoming South Korea last week - will emulate the same aesthetic in her collection for Macy's Impulse line via short and maxi-length dresses, leggings, blouses, and trenchcoats using jersey, knitwear, and art prints. “Women definitely want clothes that are versatile. I love pieces that you wear for day, and when you accessorize, become perfect for evening, too,” said Chung.The collection is set to retail from $39 to $159 and will be available Feb. 15 online and in stores. Doo.Ri's signature draping and understated, flowy silhouettes got textural for Fall 2012. Inspired by Butoh, designer Doo-Ri Chung sent the models - sporting sleek buns and leather headbands - down the runway in a gorgeous array of her draped dresses dipped in pretty hues of dark teal, blush, pearl white, and gray. For a polished touch, Doo-Ri Chung introduced wide-leg trousers, tailored wool coats complete with leather inserts, and an eye-catching array of mixed-knit wraps. 2011 Fall New York Fashion Week: Doo.Ri

Doo-Ri Chung is known for her signature draping skills but for her Fall 2011 collection seen earlier this evening at Eyebeam Gallery in Chelsea, the designer mixed things up. In addition to showing languid jersey gowns, some slit high to the thigh, the designer introduced a new category to her repertoire: slick tailored pieces comprised of felted wool coats, nylon jackets, and trousers. Dresses, embellished with cool cord macrame also played an integral role in the storyboard inspired by artist Beverly Semmes. This concept, described by Doo-Ri as "linear structure," adds a sharp touch without looking too severe - perfect for that city girl wanting to add a little edge to her look.

Trends: Long silhouettes, mohair trim, high-slit gowns and long skirts, dolman sleeves, sheer and leather inserts, cord macrame detailing.
Colors: Gray, sapphire blue, navy, beige.

Macy's just unveiled its next designer collection with Doo.Ri, launching in stores and online on Feb. 15. Staying true to her modern aesthetic, designer Doo-Ri Chung's capsule collection for Macy's shows a range of art-inspired printed dresses, knit and leather leggings, and silk-print tops. "My clothes have always been about making women feel elegant and modern, which is why I am so excited about this capsule collection," said Chung. Michelle and Barack Obama gave South Korean president Lee Myung-bak and First Lady Kim Yoon-ok a warm welcome to the White House on a rainy evening last night. For the double-date night, Michelle wore a purple creation by Korean-American designer Doo-Ri Chung. The menu, a festive "Fall harvest," included squash and honey from the White House garden and Korean and American pears in the dessert. The Obamas are becoming pros at hosting official galas, as this is their fifth state dinner.
