Project Runway Goes Drag

I'll take designing for drag queens over WWE divas any day. The designers got their chance at over-the-top and I'm satisfied that most of them lived up to the challenge. It's always a joy to be in the presence of season four alum Chris March and the queens were delightful - such personalities. There is definitely a lot of creativity in this group and this challenge set it free. However, once again I disagree with the winner. I'll spare you any spoilers because the eye candy is just too good . . . viva la drag!

Group Therapy: Does My Makeup Keep Guys Away?

I don't wear anything too ostentatious. Mostly just foundation, blush, eyeliner (sometimes winged out for drama) and mascara. So nothing Snooki-eque or drag queen-esque (unless on special occasions haha).

I know this seems kind of stupid, but do you think guys are initially only attracted to "au natural" girls? You can read it in numerous magazines and blogs - the guys wanna see the "real" you BLAH BLAH BLAH . . . One of my guy friends recently joked that girls who wear makeup every day cannot be trusted and that they must be hiding something. Well I am, acne scarring, and I never plan to go outside the house without at least foundation on.

So, to what extent do you think this hinders my chances with future mates? By the way, I am 21 and in college.

Androgynous Male Model Bends Gender Rules

Australian male model Andrej Pejic covers New York Magazine's Fall fashion issue, but at first glance (if you ignore the masculine chest) you may think it's a beautiful female model on the cover, and rightly so. Andrej has taken androgynous modeling to a whole new level, as he walks runways as both men and women interchangeably and is mistaken for a woman on a daily basis thanks to his extremely feminine features, affinity for women's clothing, and long, blond locks. But Andrej has a very unique view of gender that doesn't fall under the comfortable categories we're used to like transgender, drag queen, or cross-dresser. Andrej explains his "situation" (as he calls it) in his interview with the magazine; here are some of his thoughtful points on expanding our perception of male vs. female:

"When I started experimenting, it was to make myself feel happy, to look in the mirror and be satisfied. I never did drag or anything like that. It was always that I wanted to be pretty, to look beautiful, as a girl would want to."
"It's not like, 'Okay, today I want to look like a man, or today I want to look like a woman.' I want to look like me. It just so happens that some of the things I like are feminine."
"I know people want me to sort of defend myself, to sit here and be like, 'I'm a boy, but I wear makeup sometimes.' But, you know, to me, it doesn't really matter. I don't really have that sort of strong gender identity-I identify as what I am."
"You know, I wouldn’t say that I'm really a sexual person. But I do appreciate love, and I would love to experience it someday. I don't think I have yet."
"Obviously, as a kid you'd think about it-What would life be like if I was born a girl? and stuff. But at this point, I'm happy with the situation as it is."

A Day in the Life of Andrew Freeman

The third annual SF Chefs, San Francisco's very own food festival, is taking place this weekend. We caught up with the mastermind behind SF Chefs, Andrew Freeman. Here's what the public relations authority did yesterday, Thursday, Aug. 4.

6:30 a.m.: I woke up and I have two little Yorkie princesses, Daisy and Tulep, so I had to take them out. We went for our morning walk and got our heads together about what was coming in the day ahead. I went back home and got them ready to be shipped to the dog sitter for the weekend.

9 a.m.: I got to the office and started making conference calls. I checked in with festival clients and was making sure everyone's ready for the big day.

10 a.m.: There was a walk through at the tents in Union Square. The key players were there: Dominic Phillips, the GGRA [Golden Gate Restaurant Association], all my team. Everyone has been absolutely incredible to work with! We walked around and went through where the ribbon cutting ceremony was happening. Basically where everything that is going to be going on for the weekend, we went over.

11:30 a.m.: I raced back to the office to do a conference call with Martin Yan and his team about the opening of his restaurant in early 2012.

Arthur: More Fun the Second Time Around

Jason Winer's Arthur is a remake of a 1981 film starring Dudley Moore, but how you feel about the original (or even if you haven't seen it at all) won't have much effect on your enjoyment of the 2011 version. In this fresh take, Brand plays Arthur, a filthy rich heir who never grew up because he never had to. Arthur spends the majority of his days and nights wasting his millions on whatever and whomever he sees fit, pretending he's Batman, and drinking as much Maker's Mark as is humanly possible. With his nanny Hobson (Helen Mirren) there to clean up all of his messes, Arthur has no reason to abandon his carefree lifestyle and settle down.

When his mother hands him an ultimatum, Arthur is forced to make the first adult decision of his life: he can either marry Susan (Jennifer Garner), a tightly wound business executive whom Arthur has no romantic interest in, or he can lose his entire fortune and find out how the other half lives. The situation is made more complicated when Arthur falls head over heels for Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a girl from Queens who works as a tour guide of Manhattan and has big dreams of becoming an author.

Brand is known for playing outlandish characters like Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Aldous Snow, and he doesn't stray too far outside the realm in Arthur. As he gallivants around town in top hats and powder blue suits, his Arthur is yet another hard-partying character with a quick wit and enough one-liners to put Ricky Gervais to shame. The difference is that Brand brings a certain child-like innocence to Arthur that not only gives him depth, but makes him endearing as well. Arthur is a silly (and self-serving) character through and through, but with Brand's charm, you can't help but root for him and enjoy being part of his hijinks.

read more. Brand has a worthy partner in crime in Helen Mirren. Hobson's acid tongue is the perfect counterpart to Arthur's wacky antics, and the banter between Mirren and Brand is like an exercise in perfected British humor. Their chemistry isn't limited to swapping jabs either; there's a true connection between these two that translates to the tender scenes between them, and ultimately legitimizes the film's underlying themes of family, love, and loneliness. Garner breaks out of her typical girl-next-door role as Susan, and watching her desperately try to sink her claws into Arthur is a refreshing change of pace for the actress. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for Gerwig, who's essentially swallowed up by her more domineering costars and fails to really bring Naomi and Arthur's romance to fruition. Brand works just fine as a one-man show, but his scenes with Gerwig eventually drag down the entire film. Director Winer tries just a little too hard to pack an emotional punch into Arthur, which can be hard to swallow when you're dealing with a cast of caricatures. It's mindless fun to come along for a ride in Arthur's Batmobile, and though there are some bumps in the road, you'll still laugh along the way.

Britney Spears Rocks Her Packed SF Performance in Sexy Bodysuits - With Jason Front and Center!

Britney Spears had her San Francisco fans up nice and early for her highly anticipated Good Morning America show this morning! She looked amazing performing three songs, "Hold It Against Me," "Till the World Ends," and "Big Fat Bass," in front of a packed audience at the Bill Graham auditorium. The event was originally planned to be outside the Castro theater but was moved indoors earlier this week due to weather concerns. She got a head start on showing off her new material with a surprise Vegas show on Friday, which featured the same lineup and costume changes. She was on point for today's segment, looking amazing in her sexy bodysuits. It airs on GMA this Tuesday, the same day that her album Femme Fatale is released! 6 Savvy Strategies From This Week's The Celebrity Apprentice

It was another two hours of strategizing, scheming, and Star Jones-filled fun on The Celebrity Apprentice's latest episode, "Child's Play." We saw Jose Canseco dress up in drag - kind of - and Lisa Rinna outplayed and ejected from the board room; but what's more, we learned several savvy strategies to use in our normal, real-reality careers.

Don't get bullied into a leadership role. - The ladies on team A.S.A.P. are pretty darn cut-throat. They pressured Lisa into taking the project manager role because they (or at least Nene) wanted her ousted. What's the best way to get rid of a competitor? See her fall from above. If you're not ready to take charge, like Lisa, don't. Your failure could be exactly what your competitors want and may lead to your corporate extinction.
