eLuxury Shutters Retail, Launches Luxury Media Site

After announcing the news in January, eLuxury has closed its virtual doors for good. Did you shop the final sale? Don't fret loyals, the shopping site will transform into a social media site dedicated to everything luxurious: fashion, art, food and wine, design, culture, travel, beauty, music, and entertainment to name a few. The [new] site will be “artfully rendered and provocatively expressed,” said an eLuxury rep. Details are still under wraps but we do know starting today, the site will pose one question a day to readers. And the q of the day is . . .

Just because it's closing up shop soon doesn't mean eLuxury is going to waver in its delivery of luxurious goods. In fact, the online retailer has unveiled its 2009 Spring Trend Preview and we can all benefit from it, literally or inspiration-wise. I know it's tough to think of warm-weather clothes when it's cold, but once you see the recommended pieces, it won't be a problem. My favorite Spring trends so far are luxotica and cropped pants. This Just In: eLuxury.com to Close Up Shop

It's with utmost sadness that I report that one of our favorite online retailers, eLuxury.com, is planning on closing its retail operation over the next six months. While many shops are closing due to the recession, it is said that eLuxury's closure isn't due to its financial performance. Rather, it's because many of the brands it carries have their own online presence.

But it's not all tears over at the LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton-owned company. “Starting in mid 2009, eLuxury’s new mission will be to create an ‘e-window’ into the world of luxury, by serving as an information reference for luxury in fashion, art de vivre, leather goods, wines and spirits, watches and jewelry, gastronomy, cars, yachts, and services,” said a spokeswoman. We will miss shopping from the high-end retailer, but look forward to what sounds like an exciting online magazine.

The majority of you prefer to shop at Shopbop - so do we. But we also love to shop at Net-a-Porter, eLUXURY, J.Crew, Urban Outfitters, Shopbop, and Saks Fifth Avenue. We love it all. That's why we couldn't pick a favorite. These shops are the best of the best when it comes to online designer selections, easy navigation, and aesthetics. Thanks for helping to narrow things down, but we regularly peruse and shop all of the above!
