Sequins used to come with a cheesy, Vegas connotation, but not anymore. This time, the popular embellishment has been revived to exude a darker, dank feel. Malin Akerman knows what I mean. Her glam rockin' sequins, via an Elise Overland frock, are the epitome of cool. Here's a tip: make sure to accessorize with funky footwear and jewels to downplay the shimmer. Other than that, rock on sister, rock on.

Trend Alert: The TTD

My daily routine of perusing Net-A-Porter led me to something so simplistically new: the TTD, also known as the top tunic dress. However, I must give credit to Roland Mouret for this genius idea. The TTD is pretty much three pieces in one: a top when tucked into pants, a tunic paired with leggings, and a dress - rad. When shopping for TTDs, make sure to look for sleek shapes and solid colors for maximum versatility and always accessorize with tough elements. Three in one? It doesn't get better than that, folks.

Ashley Tisdale strutted her stuff wearing a mini purple leather sheath dress by Elise Overland. It's simple but far from boring. I like how the star styled her frock with a funky belt, black multistrap wedges, and chain mesh jewels for a youthful, hip vibe. Tell me, do you dig it?

90210 cutie Jessica Stroup is looking subtly tough in her baby blue leather jacket. Not to mention this jacket makes her baby blues pop. Gorgeous. You've probably already snatched up a black leather jacket, and if you're craving more buttery leather, shake things up with a colored leather jacket. I recommend sticking to jewel tones - purple, blue, burgundy - or neutrals. Let's face it: when it comes to leather, happy colors like orange and yellow just don't fly.

Which Heidi Klum Emmys Show Look Was Most Fab?

New York Fashion Week, Spring 2009: Elise Overland Is on a Rock 'n' Roll Safari

On a dreary Fashion Week day, I popped into the Elise Overland Spring presentation. It was an evening function, so glasses were being sipped and - oh look, it's hottie Jamie Burke, blush - Safari-inspired clothes were being modeled. Elise Overland is no newcomer, and her clothes continue to receive praise and press alike. I caught up with the designer, who was chatting with friends Courtney Cox Arquette (who was friends with the show's stylist) and Laura Dern.

What was your inspiration for this Spring?

My inspiration was a trip to the Sahara. I wanted to capture those cool, nighttime earthy colors. A more romantic palette.

Were there are any big challenges this time around?

Not really, I think there are just constant challenges as a designer. Merchandising the collections is one.

Who do you envision wearing your clothes?

A strong woman, she can be any age; it's more of an attitude. She has a bit of a rock 'n' roll edge. She's sophisticated.

Fabcon: Taylor Momsen

Say what you will, but I often find myself rooting for underdogs. While most people ga ga over Serena van der Woodsen and Blair Waldorf, I saw something more unique in Jenny Humphrey since episode one of Gossip Girl.

The same logic applies to them in real life. Ever since the first time we saw the budding beauty of a gang before the premiere of the show back in September, Taylor Momsen's hot pink poufy dress made my heart flutter. It was a great coming out dress because it was loud, fun, and demanded attention. Ever since then, I have kept my eye on Taylor and she has not let me down - not once. Whether she's wearing bright colors or an edgy metallic Elise Overland dress (left), she exudes an air of je ne sais quoi that can't be put into words.

A Few Fab Words With Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winner Elise Øverland

She started out designing stagewear for rockers like Steven Tyler and then started her own proper line in 2006. In a very short time, the rockin' appeal of Elise Øverland's chiffon dresses, cropped leather jackets, and fitted leather leggings have earned her some die-hard fans and serious accolades. I was lucky enough to snag the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation winner for a few Fab words . . .

Do you have a muse?

Hope Atherton. She started out as my friend with the same stream of creative conciseness, but now she's more my Siamese twin, grown out of my left hip.

What do you consider your forte? Your biggest design challenges?

The creative part of me drips out of my fingertips all day, but the biggest challenge is to balance that with the business side. The financial side is linear and mathematical following time and space, whereas the creative side is vertical and taps into a world not existing of these rules. This dilemma always stresses me out.

Who are your favorite designers?

I don't have a favorite designer, it all changes every season, but if was going to mention one over the decades I think it would be Gaultier. He manages to stay modern, creative, and capture a wide variety of customers.

Describe the Elise Øverland girl?

She is strong, independent, and a bit carefree and rock 'n' roll at heart. I like the clothes and the customer to have a sense of effortless glamour.

What’s in store for Fall ‘08?

Three key things: Small shrunken leather jackets with silver hardware almost like a little accessory piece that you have over a little dress; I have a lot of silk dresses in watercolor tie dye print with rustic small coins; and last, the super thin stretch leather pants that you pull on like tights without a zipper and all the fabric in the crotch.

What’s the best part of being an Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation winner?

The best part of being an Ecco Domani winner is it puts an extra spotlight on the brand, and it generates more interest from people that don't know the brand yet. Not to mention the drunk driving my employees have been doing on the sewing machines with all the great wine we were sent.

Fab Flash: 2008 Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Winners Announced

Six women's designers have been named Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation winners, joining an illustrious group of past honorees which includes Zac Posen, Proenza Schouler, and Derek Lam. The new recipients, who are each given a $25,000 grant to help showcase their Fall 2008 collections at New York Fashion Week in February, are Alexander Wang, Elise Overland, Lyell by Emma Fletcher, Reyes by José Ramón Reyes, and Wayne by Wayne D. Lee in the women's design category, as well as Subversive Jewelry by Justin Giunta in the accessories design category. Congratulations to all, and I look forward to seeing what the grant helps produce!
