Would You Wear Scented Glasses?

One French company seems to think so, because it's just debuted a whole line of glasses with perfumed arms. Les Opticiens Atol teamed up with actress and model Adriana Karembeu for the line, which is called AK Senteurs (warning: at least one high school French class - or excellent sleuthing skills - required for the site).

There are four scents: Coquette, which is a "young, strong" floral; the roughly translated Isle of Kisses, which is a fruity mango scent; Adriana, which is sweet and spicy; and Chocolate, which, of course, is a gourmand. It's a cute idea, and I guess having nice-smelling glasses couldn't hurt, but I wonder about how long the fragrance lasts, and whether some people might get contact dermatitis from it. What do you think? If this line ever comes to your neck of the woods, would you consider checking it out?

I hardly show pictures/footage of myself with glasses because I seldom wear them out of the house unless I am too lazy to be bothered or if I am going somewhere nearby. Don't get me wrong; I don't see anything wrong with glasses nor do I hate them. I just feel that with glasses on I don't usually do very much with my makeup. (Like no bright colors or heavy liner, so I tend to wear glasses on days I am too lazy to bother with much makeup.) Today I was going to the library to do some research for school and I figured I really didn't want to fuss with contacts or makeup. So at long last here's a Look of the Day guest starring my plastic frames.

I will always harbor a love and respect for my SNES - just thinking about it conjures up memories of all the heated childhood games of Super MarioKart I played with my sister. So I was totally stoked to see this SNES-inspired eyeglass case ($25) on Etsy. The soft felt cases come in sizes for eyeglasses and oversize sunglasses ($26). Each case is handmade, and features actual buttons sewn onto the front to resemble the controller's buttons. It's like a walk down memory lane, but serves a useful purpose at the same time.

Fab fave Diane von Furstenberg will be adding another specialty to her fashionable portfolio: eyewear. “Sunglasses are all about two things - glamour and protection,” said von Furstenberg. “They make me feel glamorous and they protect me from dust and the sun. And prescription glasses are incredibly important for women. It is a true friend, something very close to you that you need to see or to read, something you depend on. It’s more than an accessory, it’s a necessity.”

Diane's eyewear collection, set to retail between $150 to $175, is described as retro-inspired with modern shapes. Interested? Optical illusions hit stores in January.

Website of the Day: Frame Finder

The last time I had to pick out a pair of glasses, I felt stricken with guilt that I was taking up too much of the salesperson's time. He'd pick out a style, I'd pick out another one, and it went like this back and forth for about an hour. So you can imagine how happy I was when I discovered a cool site on Digital Inspiration called Frame Finder, that allows you to try on glasses virtually. I decided to use my adorable mother as the guinea pig for this online experiment to see if the site actually works as well as I'd hope.

Once you upload a large (at least 700 pixels wide), fairly centered photo, Frame Finder will then help you make a few more adjustments to make sure they get the dimensions correct (and figure out where your eyes, and nose are situated). After a couple of tries getting the photo centered correctly - I actually had to re-upload it since my mom's head was a little bit tilted - it was finally ready for some virtual eye glasses action. I had some fun clicking through various frame designers like Guess, Ray Ban and Oakley, as well as seeing what designs suited my mom's face the best. Naturally, they give you the option of purchasing the frame (although I'm sure you could take the model number to a store in your area). Overall, the user-interface isn't that friendly, and it does take a bit of work before your photo is ready to go, but it is free, and the results are quite accurate.
