Tory Burch Adds Sunnies To Her Mix

Clothing, jewelry, footwear, bags . . . the only thing the Tory Burch brand is lacking is sunglasses. Well, no more. The designer has added glamorous eyewear to her already-successful repertoire. Tory Burch Eyewear, expected to hit stores in November, is priced $135 to $195; rather affordable compared to typical luxury sunglasses prices (from $230).

"I spent a lot of time developing the lenses and frames," Burch said. The result? Cat eye and shield frames in black, tortoise, navy and olive green. This debut collection was inspired by Burch's icons, James Dean, Peter Fonda, and Faye Dunaway, as well as her parents’ trips to Greece, Istanbul, and Morocco in the '60s, '70s, and '80s. Fresh.

Tom Ford has a mouth fetish. After his Spring ads were banned in Italy, why is Liliana Dominguez (love her) gnashing on a fat piece of chicken in the Fall '08 eyewear campaign? Maybe she was hungry. A model eating in an ad? Groundbreaking indeed. Also, does anyone else see a nod to Amy Winehouse? I'm sure photog Solve Sundsbo and Ford intended that. It's a bit hard to focus on the specs at hand, but it is a finger lickin' good ad, no?

Round Shaped Face: Look for angular, dark lenses and avoid anything round.

On Our Radar: Benjamin Eyewear

You might not know his name, but Benjamin Montoya is a stylist's best-kept secret.

He owns the LA mecca for sunglasses, City of Angels - just recently visited by David Beckham - and last year decided to launch his own line, Benjamin Eyewear.

The shades have already been snapped up by fellow LA designer Jenni Kayne, who styled them with her last two collections shown during New York Fashion Week. But the feeling is mutual: Benjamin considers her a muse and has even named one of his available styles “Kayne.”

Fab Flash: Tom Ford Opens Up Shop!

Former Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent designer Tom Ford couldn't find a retail space for his very first boutique on Bond Street in London so, lucky for us Americans, an empty Madison Avenue boutique called his name one day as he was passing by. A phone call and some hardcore planning later, Tom's three-story, 8,680-square-foot New York store has opened its doors today at 845 Madison Avenue.

According to reports, butlers and maids have been staffed to fluff cushions and wipe dust in this uber luxurious fashion house with pale gray and sable brown hues, suede walls, leather furniture and various art pieces.

Starting at $3,000, Cary Grant-like men can purchase ready-to-wear suits or they can opt for custom-made tailoring. Women can stock up on leather goods like luggage and crocodile weekenders, fragrances, eyewear, and a full line of jewelry.

In case any of you fashion forward provocateurs want to stop by, the store is open by appointment 7am-11am and 5pm-7pm and to the public from 11am-5pm.

If you do stop by, please pick me up a crocodile weekender and I promise I'll pay you back!

Olsens Expand The Row Via Eyewear

Clothing. Check. Footwear. Check. Jewelry. Check. Now Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also adding sunglasses to their growing fashion empire. Fabulous. Come Spring, you'll be able to purchase four styles of sunglasses retailing from $325 to $390: a metal aviator pair, vintage-style brow-line shades, an oversize square shape, and a '60s-inspired round frame. "We're testing the market first and obviously these are four very different silhouettes, so we're seeing what people are responding to and we'll open up a couple more silhouettes for Fall," Ashley Olsen said. Look for the Spring styles at Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys New York.

The Unstoppable Victoria Beckham

No burglary heist could slow down Victoria Beckham. The ex-Spice Girl and celebrity designer has proven she's got some serious staying power in the fashion industry, and not only with her highly coveted dress collection. Tomorrow, the self-proclaimed perfectionist will reveal her completely redesigned denim and eyewear collection - which is now under the sole control of Beckham - at Net-A-Porter, along with two short fashion flicks honoring the occasion.

“I plan on still being here in 25 to 30 years' time,” said Beckham. "It's about doing things gradually and building the brand in a strategic way. It's about finding the right time, the right team. With everything that I do, I will only do it after I’ve done all my homework. I really am a perfectionist, and I don't want to rush anything."

That said, Beckham's business has grown tremendously over the past four seasons. Industry sources estimate the designer's dress, denim, and eyewear business will do about $7.5 million in sales next year. Marc Jacobs even touted Beckham for her accomplishments and work ethic, stating, "She is someone who has always wanted to design clothes. She knows the body, she loves it and she’s working her ass off."

Victoria's fresh denim line will retail at $215 to $485; eyewear will range from $349 for acetate Wayfarers to $525 for metal flat-top sunglasses. Super hot. Can you believe she used to be bullied in school? What doesn't break you makes you stronger, right?

Balmania!!!

If you know nouveau Balmain, you're familiar with its luxe, rocker aesthetic, and even more ferocious collection of footwear. Thanks to Balmain’s Christophe Decarnin, the Paris fashion house will get even bigger - if that's even possible – with recent collaborations. Balmain took its three-year relationship with Giuseppe Zanottti and signed an official women’s footwear license with the shoe designer. New to come is an upcoming capsule collab with eyewear expert Oliver Peoples, along with the possibility of a men's shoe line. “He is the master of arts, deus ex machina,” said Balmain's chief executive, Hivelin.

Balmain is said to have around 20 licenses all over the world, including scarves, small leather goods, and ties. In addition, its flagship boutique in Paris will undergo a complete art deco-inspired renovation next month, featuring chimneys transplanted from chateaus around France and authentic Louis XIV or XV parquet flooring – wow. Get ready for total, utter Balmania!!!

Look Book Love: Karen Walker Eyewear, Fall '09

You know a look book is spot-on when you wish you could grow vampire teeth to replicate it. Karen Walker's Fall '09 eyewear Look Book had that effect on me. OK, I'm a little biased considering my ongoing obsession with the gothic vampire look. Aside from the rad teeth, the sunnies are stunning. You would most definitely do a double take if you saw someone wearing a pair.
